  1. From 1996 until 2001, I lived in Kalifornia. I was in a Hooters ONE time. If I were with a running mate and he wanted to go to the Pattaya Hooters, I would go with him. That's the only reason I would go. No way would I go out of the way by myself. I like places with some atmosphere and not the sterile kind.
  2. I'll let you know how the meal is. I intend to give it a try. As long as I sit at the bar, I didn't have to have a reservation.
  3. I talked to Eddie yesterday and he assured me that there will be no more Thai turkeys. Only imported US turkeys this time. I forgot the price but I think it was 695 baht.
  4. I find it interesting that Thailand seems to think that two can live cheaper than one. The marriage extension requires 400,000 in the bank and the retirement extension requires 800,000. I am legally married but use the retirement option. Much easier than the marriage type. I have heard nothing about changing the marriage extension requirements.
  5. Sorry to hear that. My meal here up country was pig leg with vegetables and rice. I doubt that I ever posted about my Thai turkey experience. I had what turned out to be a brain fart. We started out with two hens and a tom turkey. They did very well with both hens broody. It didn't take long before we had turkeys running around everywhere. The big day came when I killed a your tom and put him on the BBQ. I can honestly say that that bird was not fit to eat although my golden retriever thought it was fine. My Thai brother in law took one and after a BBQ, he ended up making laap out of it. I tol
  6. Rich Man Poor Man in Jomtien Soi 9 always has a super Christmas day meal. You would be advised to make an early reservation. Eddie won't have the fanciest menu but you can be sure the meal will be top shelf. Genuine home cooked style.
  7. Years ago I got my one year visas from a Bangkok company named Thai Visa. Everything went well for several years. The last time I went there, the doors were chained shut. After asking a lot of people I was told that the owner was deported because that business was illegal. I seriously considered leaving Thailand because there were lots of rumors that the people who used that service would be prosecuted. I decided to face the music and went to Bangkok immigration. The immigration officer carefully examined my passport. He told me the stamps were authentic government stamps but since I had never
  8. Immigration likes to see you use the 800,000 baht throughout the year and then top it back up well before the three month seasoning date. The first year I used the 800,000 requirement, I didn't touch the money. I was questioned how I lived without any money. I had two bank accounts, one I lived off of and the other I didn't touch. THey are very touchy about this. I had the bank letter dated the day before I went to immigration. I had to leave the immigration office and go to a SCB bank and make a transaction showing that days date. Chicken shit for sure but we have no choice except to jump th
  9. Years ago I brought over a fairly large amount of dollars. I went where I had an account at what was then the Thai Farmers Bank. After an hour or so of carefully examining the dollars they slid back a bunch of bills that were not acceptable. I went back to my favorite bar and was complaining about the dollars that were not acceptable. My then girlfriend offered to take them to a local money changer. Not only did they accept every single bill, they gave a better rate than the bank.
  10. I had my 800,000 baht in the local Farmers Bank account that paid decent interest. The money was available at any time. It was approved by Loei Immigration. THEN, Loei got a new boss. She is a nasty bitch who decided that my bank account was not acceptable. I told the bitch that I would go to the bank and put the funds in a regular savings account. Not good enough, it had to be in the savings account for three months. I ended up having to go to Bangkok and get an income letter. That was a hassle in itself. About 650 kilometers one way. When I got back to Loei immigration I was fined a thousand
  11. On my VERY few trips to the US, I did shop at Walmart. I have to say that I have never seen the super weirdos that are shown on those video clips. I did see a number of fat (obese) people in the store but other than the tent size clothes, they looked relatively normal.
  12. I got my information from the link I posted. I had health insurance for a number of years from a company that said they would never cancel me because of age. They never said anything about pricing me out. I cancelled the policy at age 65. I don't remember for sure but I think that company was Liberty Mutual Group. I had to think about it for a while and when I read that the maximum payout was 1.25 million baht, I decided I could pay that much myself.
  13. The health insurance is a deal breaker. The very cheapest Bupa policy for a 71 year old for outpatient and hospital coverage is 56,000 baht per month. Even at that there are probably exclusions for previous conditions. They didn't mention the policy limits. https://www.nowcompare.com/thailand/en/health-insurance/results/detail=YToxMDp7czo3OiJmUGVyc29uIjtzOjE6IjEiO3M6OToiZkxvY2F0aW9uIjtzOjg6InRoYWlsYW5kIjtzOjEwOiJmQ292ZXJUeXBlIjtzOjU6IkVYUEFUIjtzOjEwOiJmQ292ZXJNb2RlIjtzOjQ6IkhPX18iO3M6MTE6ImZDb3Zlck1vZGUyIjtzOjIwOiJIb3NwaXRhbCwgT3V0cGF0aWVudCI7czo3OiJzb3J0aW5nIjtzOjU6InByaWNlIjtzOjc6ImZpbE1
  14. I still have a condo in Jomtien. I get down there several times a year. Last year I bought a new Isuzu 4X4. I was going to drive that down but the Ford Focus is more comfortable. On the way down, the focus developed a vibration. By the time I got to the condo, it was getting worse and worrying. I took it to the Ford dealer near Makro. Of course I had no appointment. That was on a Monday. I told them I was from Loei and really needed the car. To make a long story short, I got it back five days later along with a 24,000 baht bill. No one spoke English and I asked to see the defective parts. I wa
  15. I think your only option is to go to the embassy and try to talk them into issuing an income letter to make up the shortage.
  16. Even for 58,000 baht, it's a no brainer. Better safe than dead.
  17. The last time I rented out my condo, I was getting 9,000 baht a month. That was for a 60 square meter unit with a separate bedroom. My renter was a friend of mine and asked why I quoted such a low rental price. I told him that I wanted him in the condo and wanted to make it so he really couldn't afford to move. That also had benefits for me. He took care of any maintenance problems and never complained.
  18. I know it's likely behind schedule. When is the latest completion date?
  19. Last Tuesday I drove the 100 kilometers to the Loei immigration office to do my 90 day report. I asked why I couldn't do it online. The lady looked at me and simply said I MUST report to the office. It appears that different offices have different policies.
  20. The3 only things I eat raw are a few ladies and some vegetables. Everything else MUST be cooked.
  21. I once made a bad mistake looking for the absolute best ticket price. To my horror, I had made a mistake with the connection time. It was a 12 hour mistake and I sat in the Taiwan airport for about 13 hours. After that I paid particular attention to connection details. I will pay more for a flight that has the best connections. I probably have used Expedia more than any other and have never had a problem.
  22. If that's a mini, what does the regular look like. I'm a pretty big eater and that portion would fill me up.
  23. Loei has the dubious reputation of being the coldest province in Thailand. It does get pretty cold up here. When I can see my breath in the mornings, that is too cold for me. I wanted to put in a wood burning stove but the wife hated the idea. She says they are too dirty. I settled for a catalytic LPG heater in my computer room. Last year during a cold snap, I headed down to Jomtien and stayed in the condo until it warmed up. Fortunately during the day the temperature is seldom lower than about 28 C. I guess I can put up with cold nights because I have a bed warmer. I just have to make sure th
  24. I can tell you what I tell my condo hunting friends; You have a key that unlocks the door. You turn on the light switch and the lights come on. You flush the toilet and it works. You find out how much the monthly maintenance is. Some condo complexes are rip offs. My condo association charges 10 baht per square meter per month. You make sure the electricity is billed direct from the electric company. Another possible rip off if not. If they are buying it to live in, a shoebox is not a good idea. It should have a separate bedroom. Yes, more money but worth it.
