  1. My Idea: Tell your friend to change his dates to a time when you can go with him.
  2. I *still* don't get this. You want to sell your part of a group room that will still have your friends there to absolute strangers? Don't you have other friends (or friends of your friends staying in the room) to take your place? If you can't find anyone, ask your friends if they'd be okay with me sharing the room with them. I snore like a freight train and I fart a lot and make the room smell like it's full of sewer gas. But except for that, who knows...maybe we can swing a deal.
  3. Wait, what? Link: http://pattayadailynews.com/pattaya-uber-driver-caught-red-handed/
  4. I have probably tried most of the board-endorsed taxi services. But Toom still has provided me with the most consistent experience. Always on time. Car in good shape. Drivers are excellent.
  5. Martin, I'm a Global Board mod for a sports site with almost 100 separate boards. This is the kind of thread I lock immediately. Ballboy (our term for posters with as few posts as the OP) posting sh*t just to stir rumors. Wouldn't doubt that he/she is somewhere else under a different username pointing to this thread to justify him spreading the rumor at the other site. My dos centavos.
  6. Does anyone have up-to-date info about the Discovery Beach Hotel out near Soi 6? I've heard conflicting info about whether they were guest friendly or not. Would appreciate any updates anyone can share with me.
  7. I was thinking the exact same thing. I *need* that ham hock in my life. But then a long nap afterwards. Perhaps grabbing it at a time that's between lunch and dinner (4ish?) and letting it carry me food-wise for the rest of the day and night. I'm in town next month. I'm eating that damn thing.
  8. IF walkable to Soi 6 is important, try the @Mind hotel. I reviewed it a while back here: http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/63746-review-mind-serviced-residence/ Very walkable to Soi 6. Also very walkable are: 1) Season 5 Hotel (Soi 5): http://www.seasonfivehotel.com 2) Seven Zea Chic Hotel (Soi 5): http://www.sevenzeahotel.com 3) Centara Pattaya Hotel: http://www.centarahotelsresorts.com/centara/cpy/
  9. Lovely report and photos, Evil. As I've gotten older -- wow, I hate typing those words -- I've become less concered about food quantity and more concerned about food quality. Accordingly, buffets for the sake of being a buffet no longer interest me. I'd rather have a good, solid meal in a single portion (simple or fancy) and have it appropriately priced than try and gorge the most calories per baht that I can just because. Too bad too. This place, in terms of decor, looks really nice.
  10. Thanks Evil. I'm gonna put it on my list when I'm back in February.
  11. Just a quick inquiry to residents and regulars. How was the rainy season. Over a couple of years, we've all watched the reservoir's water level keep dropping. I wonder if this was a "good" rainy season that may have reduced the water deficit.
  12. "2. Five Spice Duck on a Bokchoy Risotto - 270B" Wow, that looks really good.
  13. Evil, how was the duck. It looks really good. (Am a sucker for a good roast duck over rice).
  14. Thanks Martin. Hahaha...love it. So, to preserve money and monopoly for the industry, local governments are gonna employ police assets and arrest low-level average folk for possessing e-cigs. Perfect.
  15. I must be the last human on the planet who's figured out that there's a ban on e-cigarettes. (Checking out a crime news story in the Pattaya Mail website). But regular cigarettes are okay. If anyone knows the reason why, I'd like to know. Not that I smoke e-cigarettes. I just really get a kick out of illogical Thai laws.
  16. For me, Mr. Toom has always been reliable. Been using him for years with zero incidents. That being said, to me it's all just YMMV. Whatever you're comfortable with is what you'll stick to. I don't need anything fancy or big or whatever (though the Toom drivers and cars have always been good). I just want a ride. Toom: toom39@msn.com / +66814827148
  17. Have been working in and out of South America the last 1.5 years (nightlife stuff with hot and cold running women is just outstanding.) But am getting transferred to Asia nextt week. I'm taking a week of vacation before I start and thinking about swinging by ptt. @Evil -- how does the duck here compare to Leng Kee? I'm craving some really good roast duck.
  18. Just reading the words "excellence in Thai engineering" makes me laugh a little. Nice topic, OP.
  19. With my luck, since I don't read Thai, somebody's gonna hand me a Thaksin bowl and clueless me will be using it to splash people and end up in the monkey house.
  20. Wow, that pork chop looks really, really good. I'm in town in a couple of weeks. Must swing by to try that and the delicious-looking bruschetta.
  21. Jammed with work and as a mental break, hit the UAL website to see what tickets to BKK were. DCA-BKK-DCA Outbound: Wednesday, November 2 Return: Wednesday, November 16 $811.06 That's a good price when compared to recent months'years. Must be all about cheaper fuel costs.
  22. I read that you don't like them, so this isn't about you or your great reviews, Evil. But a Hooters review without its wings feels odd. It's the only thing worth eating in the (stateside) bars IMO. Wings, beer, and sports on TV. Nothing else on the menu -- save this Latina waitress at the San Antonio Riverwalk Hooters last week -- appeals to me.
  23. There was a charge, but I stayed there last year so can't vouch for the second lady charge still being in effect. I think it was 400 or 800 bht. Sorry I can't remember exactly
