Under 300 Baht ... And Good! (updated July 4, 2022)
Saddic replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
I'm a little late to the Arno's fan club... but onboard now... Went for dinner... Had their traditional burger... 300grams... includes fries or salad... cheddar or blue cheese... comes with bacon... The burger was big, fat, and juicy... Don't see how anyone could eat the double traditional... Suffice to say, best damn burger I've had in Pattaya... And even better, the same burger at lunch includes a soft drink... 220b... 25b water (for those of you who cant live w/o knowing the price of water 555)... Ordering was a clusterfuck... My friends ordered steak and went up to the counter to do that... I waited forever to get the attention of a service person to order my burger... WTF... why the fuck do they have 2 separate systems to place an order... -

Under 300 Baht ... And Good! (updated July 4, 2022)

Tried Chunky Monkey (across from Treetown, on Baukow) last night with a buddy... Large "Brit Pub food & Thai food & desserts & pies & etc" menu... 4 - 79 b specials, daily 99b specials... Wanted the meatloaf... good at 159b My buddy went cheap and tried the 79b steak & egg... looked decent.. He said it tasted good... but meat a little tough (as one would expect for Thai beef)... I would like that for bkfast.. Verdict... I'll be back... I want to try the 79 b pork chop and goulash (regular menu) and banana split... (not all at once... lol)... Lots of items all under 200b... except for the steak items... Looks good... -

This is why I go to iRovers for their 119b American Bkfast... no hassle... and the sausages are better than Retox's... no potatoes though... .. oops, I guess this belongs in the other thread... 555 -
Hawker Chan on Beach Road at Royal Garden Plaza
Saddic replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
Made it over to the Singapore original hawker stall @ Chinatown... (there are now 3 locations in Singapore) When I got there at about 10am... line was already about 30min long... The line had doubled in size, so about an hour long, by the time I was served... yikes! By the time I got through the line... I ordered chicken on rice, and chicken on noodles... $2 SGD/plate... OMG... They deserve the star... Juicy, succulent chicken, awesome tea sauce... Excellent and awesome is all I can say... unlike the crap they serve at the Pattaya branch... which was a cold congealed inedible mess... YMMV... Save your money and go to Singapore... -
OMG... gotta try... From their fb page they also have a 100b Fish and Chips (Friday)... and a pie and liqueur coming soon...

He's getting lots of press... https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/24/michelin-star-singapore-chicken-rice-chef-chan-hon-meng-on-expansion.html -
I ate there quite a few nights before Evil... agree mostly... I ordered the big seafood gumbo, small red beans and rice, and salad... (but no hab)... so ordered a shrimp poorboy in it's place.. TOO MUCH FOOD! Next time would do without the poorboy when ordering 2 other dishes... or vice verse... The gumbo was good but I think needed to be a bit thicker... aka more roux or okra to help thicken it up... Flavors were good.. The red beans and rice was spot on.. The poorboy was a bit off as the shrimp was butterflied and fried to be big, and didn't quite fit in the bun right... Made it very hard to eat... Sacrilege (I know), but could have used a dressing to moisten it up... Wish they had a catfish offering... Their menu just has fried fish... + a beer... total damage 500b Overall, it hit the spot... I'd go back to try some of the other dishes...

Oishi Japanese Buffet at The Avenue Mall
Saddic replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
Oh Evil... ya missed much by not going to those stations at the end... (and I was also going to say the same for the two cook to order stations, but you added that... although you don't do it justice... ... I generally give the prepared foods a miss (including the dim sum)... and head to the cook to order stations... They are one of the high points of the place... At the first station, you pick your items and they stir fry it... At the second station, it is more of a grill setup... Pick your meats, or skewers, or fish and they grill it... They also have additional set items at those stations... It should be noted your table has little clothes pins with numbers on them... You tag your plate with your number at the grill, and they return the cooked item to your table... In the case of a set item... you deposit your number into a corresponding bowl... In the last station... There are cold soba noodles, and also a (sort of) Japanese hot pot setup... where you select the items, and they add the broth and bring it to your table with a candle to keep it warm... ... there is one more item, but I am drawing a blank at the moment... Desserts are located in 3 places... There is an open display case (near the soup) with little parfaits... (the last pic) On the counter near the end, opposite the station on the end are cakes (you 2nd from the end pic, where the little girl is helping herself to cake) On the 2nd from the end station, are fruits/salads... When I was last there (about a month ago)... They also had a station across from the soups (against the seating area) where a guy would make to order sushi cones (and something else)... Not sure if it is still there... Lastly Drinks: sake & beer are available for purchase (over and above the set cost).. Included with the price are soft drinks, tea, coffee... Over all, I agree with the assessment... it is ok, but falls short of the mark for being exceptional... In contrast, Singapore is littered with EXCEPTIONAL Japanese buffets of this style... -
When my arrival/departure time does not work with Bell Bus... I use PT Taxi... Been doing this for 5-10+ years... Generally really really good... I keep their number on my cell phone, in case I can't find the driver... the office clears it up quickly if there is a problem...

The old Beerfest seemed to cater to the Russian crowd... From Mr E's wonderful report, that seems to not have changed... (I'll check in a couple of weeks when I return...)... Hope they have other than the commercial beer's when I get there... ...and out of curiosity.. I thought it was considered "illegal" to brew beer.. (if you weren't otherwise well connected)... Hope Mr G tries out the food and lets us know how authentic it is (or not)...
