Hiroshima, the land of the Rising Sun..........Part 1
firth1974 replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Now, i don't know if you can see this clearly enough, but you should be able to see a dark "stain" on the step. This is believed to be the "shadow" of a person that was sat on the step waiting for the bank to open, at the time of the explosion. He was vapourised instantly!!!........................... So hot that roof tiles started to melt!!!...................................... A still radioactive piece of material, that the museum let you play with.................................. This is the actual "black rain" that came down after the explosion............................ -
Hiroshima, the land of the Rising Sun. Such a beautiful city to visit, but you must remember its tragic history, and the part it played in ushering in the Atomic age into our world. The tragic events that happened here must never be forgotten, and be remembered for all time. Luckily, this ( and Nagasaki) are the only times that an Atomic weapon as ever been used in anger, and especially against a civilian population, as Hiroshima had no military value whatsoever to either the Japanese war machine, or to the American invading forces. This was just a show, to show who was the biggest, badass kid on the block!!! WARNING; SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND SOME OF THE IMAGES DISTURBING, and for that i apologise beforehand. This is the view from my bedroom window when i woke up, and no, its not the Radioactive glow of Hiroshima............................ The Children's museum........................... These are the clothes of a young school girl, worn at the time of the explosion....................... Its good to know that Japanese school kids are taking a great interest in what happen here 70 years ago. These kids were everywhere today, and in there 1000's..................................

Chinese tourists are everywhere, and you really do need to fight with them to get yourself to the front to be able to see, or to just defend your own position. One of the little bastards even drew blood from me, kicking me 3 times in my right ankle. Vicious little bastards!!!! Row after row after row of tour buses here, and this car park is not even that big!!! -
This is the views from the Dora Observatory, looking across the border and straight into the secretive, and communist controlled North Korea. From here you can see for miles. You can see the village the North built to try and impress the South, and the new built Kaesong Industrial area that was built by the South. This is the largest no-mans land in the world, and the worlds largest minefield. This is the village that the North built to show the South that their population live in good quality housing. In reality, the housing is nothing more than a shell, just purely bricks and mortar and nothing else.................................................. This is the Kaesong Industrial region, a specially built town by the South, built in North Korea to help them with foreign currency.............................. Where this South Korean flag pole is, is the village of Panmunjon, where the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement was signed................................... As far as the eye can see, or you can see are miles and miles of trenches, watch towers, barbwire fences and mine fields.....................................

The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel. D M Z of Korea.
firth1974 replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
The tunnels were built as an invasion route into the south. I'm just a little bit too tall to stand up straight in there, but for a small assed Korean soldier, it's easy. -

EVA Air Weekend Surprise - book 18/19 July - LON to BKK £467

2 adults have to travel together. Not such a good price, unless you have a mate wanting to go at the same time. -
There is just so many photos i have taken at the DMZ, that i have seperated them all off, and will create a series of photos threads for the DMZ. These first photos are of Imjingak. This is a park area and the nearest you can actually GET to the DMZ, without entering the No man's land exclusion area, and having to show your passport (which you have to submit weeks before your arrival day to the DMZ), to the South Korean army!! These guys you dont fuck with!! There are DEADLY serious about their job and the security of their nation against the communists in the North. Many Seoul locals come here at the weekends and holidays to party and celebrate, which will explain why there is a fair sized Fun Fair here!!

The National War Memorial of Korea. Seoul, South Korea.
firth1974 replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Another member on another board ( who is a good friend of mine) passed through Seoul on the way back to England in January. He showed me a few photos of his flying visit, and i thought seeing as i'm going to Japan in June, i might just do a stop over in Korea as well on the way there, which is just what i did. Spent 4 nights in Seoul on the way to Tokyo. Seoul was an amazing place. So clean and well presented. -

The National War Memorial of Korea. The Koreans are very proud of their history, albeit it hasn't been a very good history for them. This museum is a collection of aircraft and exhibits related to their more recent struggle with peace against their brother's and sister's of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

This was taken on my iPhone back in June. Its not the busiest this crossing ever gets, as this was taken around 4pm. This crossing has been made famous in a number of films, most recently in a number of the Fast and Furious movies.

There is a viewing platform in the departures hall. Take the escalators to the very top above Immigration/Security area and you can see out, albeit i've only ever seen out of there very early in the morning before the sun rises, so not the best of views. No views from the gardens at either end of the terminal, although if you are driving, there is an outer perimeter road that you can get around which i would of thought would be great for photos.
