Yes, I knew very little about the soi Buakhao.... the GOGO bars and the former Hungarian restaurant..... I must to repeat, despite of the long time I visit Pattaya and my long term trips I count myself still a tourist... I think who don't drive, will stay a tourist forever, and I don't drive.... All I know over the songthaew line tourist ghetto I know because the girls or my expat showed me.... So I may know a few hidden places and I may not know many obvious places for the expats.....So let see my today's walk.... The following picture shows the little soi where the barber shop.... I asked the girl about the name of the soi and she replied something like this " soi namkhenglom " nam kheng = ice, lom = wind... maybe Icy wind street ??? BTW, the first soi on the left from the Pattaya Klang... And the shop itself.... The market.... you can see in the back the View Talay 6 and the Festival Centre ( Hilton ) Everything in one picture.... a thai girl, a russian tourist and a shirtless farang..... The happy ending massages in soi Chayapum or Honey inn ???? Not sure, at this time I missed the other street.... The massage saloon I visited the last time and dropped in again.... Funny shit, when I came in she chatted with some farang ( obviously they don't know each others in personal ) ... Whilst an other girl massaged my foot, she continued the chat, leart the english etc... the funny thing was, when they ended the chat she don't turned off the window and he also don't turned off his webcam, so I could see from the corner of my eyes how he spending his day....

I was as overjoyed as the next beach-avoider when I saw the title of this topic on the Teakdoor website recently. But just as I was pulling on my swimming trunks and bathing cap to dive into the sea near the water/sewage outflow pipe at the top of Walking Street (near the well-located sewage treatment centre), I paused for a moment and read some of the posts. It all started with a non-Pattaya resident poster called Socal, who boldly advanced the argument that Pattaya’s beaches are actually clean, using some internet-garnered scientific cut and paste resources and ending with the comment: The beach is not dirty, it is safe to swim in, and every rumor you hear out there is bullshit. Of course, to many who actually live in Pattaya, it wasn’t bull effluent which concerned them, but that of a human kind, and the poster received a well-deserved blast from some thoughtful, intelligent and well-informed posters on the subject of the treatment of waste in our fair city. And some plain abusive ones too. Mind you the poster didn’t help himself or his argument when he mistakenly posted a nice photograph of JOMTIEN beach and its cleaner sea, instead of Pattaya Beach, as a way of advancing his argument about the cleanliness of the seawater in Pattaya bay. He was pulled up on this by Dirtydog: Jomtien is ok, I have seen cleaner places in the world, but trying to prove that Pattaya beach is clean by posting a photo of Jomtien beach is slightly misleading to say the least. Some really disturbing facts came out of this topic. For example, Dirtydog made the point that although Pattaya’s rainwater drainage should just contain rainwater, in fact it is a very common practice in the city for old shophouses, especially those in sois close to the beach, to connect their waste pipes and cess pits containing raw sewage into it. Loy Toy also said this is common in residential properties and developments throughout the city. As this stormwater exits into the sea, in both Pattaya and Jomtien, it inevitably carries more than rainwater with it. Also hold that thought for when the city’s streets are flooded in storms and you have to walk through the resulting lakes and rivers of water. Halfmile said: No sea-birds at the beach, nor any crabs running in the sand at sunset. Pattaya Beach seems to be a maritime deathzone. Perhaps the reasons for that were highlighted by posters such as Lostandfound, who said: It's not just Pattaya city shit to worry about, there's a whole petro-chemical industry up the coast pumping out who knows what, plus all of Bangkok's crap coming down the Chao Phraya River. Norton disturbingly expanded on this theme: The quality of Pattaya sewage treatment is a factor in polluting its beach. Even if their sewage treatment was so good the output could be bottled and sold as Pattaya Pure Mountain Spring water, Pattaya beach would still have a significant pollution problem. Being "down stream", everything dumped into the Chao Phraya River (industrial waste, sewage, city drainage water), Samut Prakan (industrial waste, pesticides, prawn farming waste) and Chon Buri (industrial waste and pesticides) ends up at Pattaya beach and everywhere else on the Eastern seaboard albeit somewhat diluted from the source. Loy Toy succinctly hit another nail on the head when he said: Pattaya, in fact the whole of Chon Buri Province, has a major problem, and that is development versus infrastructure availability. A great example of Thailand in general. Not enough infrastructure to handle the amount of traffic. I live quite close to the biggest waste water plant in Pattaya and it has not been upgraded in the last 10 years yet the number of people living in the area has grown 100 fold. Without going into too much detail I have had senior council officials stand in front of me and admit they have allowed whole communities to pipe their sewage pipes directly into the storm water systems and those pipes go nowhere near the waste water treatment plants. This water ends up flowing into Pattaya Bay, everyone knows it including the TAT and the hotel association. At this stage I would at least like to balance this commentary with some credible arguments as to why the waters of Pattaya ARE cleaner than we think. Following my sauna session I decided to discover the soi Buakhao area.... I planned anyway to make a hair cut, noticed a shop... the girl smiled wild and invited me... OK, why not ? Usually I use the cosmetic saloon in the condo for 150 baht... in the condo, she makes my hair within 10 minutes, usually lame, but I thought OK, my curly hair maybe a challenge for a thai hairdresser.... In the soi Buakhao shop the girl worked more, than 30 minutes on my hair, asked me 100 times if she was OK etc.... she even shaved my erars, my nose... and asked 70 baht... I gave her 100 baht and a big thank you... walking out to the street she grabbed me and gave me back the 30 baht... when I told her, Ok, it's for you she looked me strange and waied a big.... Entering in a massage saloon ( foot and thai massage: 100 baht, oil massage: 200 baht ) A young girl started my foot massage, but I saked her make it more stronger..... the boss girl ( a pretty one in her 20es ) told her, to leave, she can do it really strong... Chit chatting with her I asked her, how they can survive with those low prices ?? Her reply was surprising: this is a great business to make a lot of money... if 15-20 customers come / day, we make big money... see the math.... in the saloon worked 4 girls.... and the XXI century.... from her laptop sounded the music, she sung with perfect english and with closed eyes... once the song was interrupted.... she mentioned: hm.. the internet is slow today... Soi Honey inn & Chayapoon.... the same prices for the massages... a really looker begged me to having an oil massage " to take care me "... Sorry, I don't want.... She: 500 baht all in all..... Walking by a food cart a young, pretty girl waied me and : sawatdee khaa... OK... I was lame and shy... walked forward... Ordered a fried rice with pork.... 35 baht....and better, than my same food for 70 baht in the condo... no tip was expected... All in all the area looked me innocent by the cretin internet tourists and the asian swarming.... somehow slow and local... I liked it... I will be back....

I used my mate's card... ) Sam Song still 2340 baht for 12 bottles, no one satang increased prices... soda pops, water, beer... no one satang increased... I bought wild boar meat to make goulash for my mates for 165 baht / kilo... A huge turkey ( 7-8kg ) cost around 900 baht... Chicken legs costs 62 baht / kilo.... Rock lobsters costs 200 baht / kilo.... Mackerels costs 60 baht / kilo... L&M slim, menthol costs the same 460 baht / stripe in my local store...

NEW DELHI, Oct 28 – As the global population hits seven billion, experts are warning that skewed gender ratios could fuel the emergence of volatile “bachelor nations” driven by an aggressive competition for brides. The precise consequences of what French population expert Christophe Guilmoto calls the “alarming demographic masculinisation” of countries such as India and China as the result of sex-selective abortion remain unclear. But many demographers believe the resulting shortage of adult women over the next 50 years will have as deep and pervasive an impact as climate change. The statistics behind the warnings are grimly compelling. Nature provides an unbending biological standard for the sex ratio at birth of 104-106 males to every 100 females. Any significant divergence from that narrow range can only be explained by abnormal factors. In India and Vietnam the figure is around 112 boys for every 100 girls. In China it is almost 120 to 100 — and in some places higher than 130. And the trend is spreading: to regions like the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia all post birth ratios of more than 115 to 100, and further west to Albania and Kosovo. Global awareness of the problem was raised back in 1990 with an article by the Nobel prize-winning Indian economist Amartya Sen that carried the now famous title: “More Than 100 Million Women Are Missing.” Demographers say that figure is now more than 160 million — women selected out of existence by the convergence of traditional preferences for sons, declining fertility and, most crucially, the prevalence of cheap prenatal sex-determination technology. As many as half a million female foetuses are estimated to be aborted each year in India, according to a study by British medical journal The Lancet. “Earlier villagers had to go to the city to get a sonogram (ultrasound),” said Poonam Muttreja, executive director of the non-profit Population Foundation of India. “Today sonographers are going into the villages to cater to people who want sons.” Even if the sex ratio at birth returned to normal in India and China within 10 years, Guilmoto says men in both countries would still face a “marriage squeeze” for decades to come. “Not only would these men have to marry significantly older, but this growing marriage imbalance would also lead to a rapid rise in male bachelorhood… an important change in countries where almost everyone used to get married,” he said.
