  2. Probably a lot of money. Cars imported into Thailand is expensive. For duty & customs. Licensing a imported car would still be expensive. Because, not made in Thailand. I don't think it would not matter if it was in her name. The bottom line is money, money, money. It depends on how much you want to pay and how much of a headache do you want.
  3. Found this article about shipping cars to Thailand. Good luck if you send your car. Car seizure part of Thai customs crackdown The Customs Department is taking serious action against car smugglers, and is prepared to investigate past tax payment records on luxury vehicles, according to Chavalit Sethahmeteekul, the department's director-general. ``Any car owners who are aware that they have purchased their cars at cheap prices and suspect that they have not paid appropriate taxes are urged to contact the department for proper tax settlements. Otherwise their cars might be seized,'' Mr Chavalit said. Yesterday, Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak visited the customs station at Laem Chabang port to examine 34 smuggled vehicles worth 47 million baht (including taxes). Mr Chavalit said tax payment records could be checked against car registrations at the Land Transport Department. Normally, an imported car cannot be registered unless taxes have been properly paid. If the owner registers the car but its chassis number is not listed on the import tax payment records of the Customs Department, it means that the car is still subject to an import tax. In the 10 months to October this year, 11,690 cars were imported, with 10.1 billion baht in taxes collected. Mr Somkid said the seizure of smuggled cars sent a strong signal that the Customs Department was now taking serious action against tax evasion. To improve enforcement, the Finance Ministry has approved a budget of one billion baht to purchase x-ray equipment to screen cargo containers. The 34 seized vehicles at Laem Chabang consisted of one Toyota Estima, eight Honda Stream vans, 20 Honda CRVs, four Toyota Harriers and one Honda Accord. They have a combined value of 15.3 million baht, not including import, excise, municipal and value-added taxes totalling 31.9 million baht. The vehicles were imported in 17 containers from Japan by K-Line (Thailand) Co through Pier B3 operated by Laem Chabang Terminal Co. The manifests said the containers were empty. Under the law, the shipping agent would face a fine of up to four times the value of the smuggled goods plus excise tax. However, in practice, a fine up to twice the value is usually imposed. Last month, officials searched a house in Soi Vacharapol in Bangkok and found two Mercedes Benz S28C sedans, two Benz E200 sedans and two Benz 180 sedans with a combined value before tax of about seven million baht. It was claimed that the vehicles had been brought from the Lat Krabang industrial estate for repairs before being exported to Laos via Nong Khai province in northeastern Thailand. However, the vehicles were never exported. The officials seized the cars for tax evasion. It is estimated that tax evasion on vehicles costs the government about 10 billion baht a year, with some customs officials conspiring with smugglers. Source: Bangkok Post Dec 7, 2002
  4. I've heard a few stories about shipping cars to Thailand. The cost to import it is way out of the line. Customs will be in line for there cash. Licensing a foreign car will be expensive. Insuring a foreign car might be a lot more. More than likely, you wouldn't be able to make it to the licensing department. My opinion is. Store it. Sell it. Go to the jaguar place Emil mentioned and buy a new or a used one. Less headaches.

  6. I planned on moving here about 3 years ago. When I came here for a vacation. 3 times a year. I brought 2 check in bags ( 70 pounds each) and a carry on bag. By the time I made the move to stay in Thailand permanently. I had almost everything I wanted from the states moved to Thailand. Shipping was free. No problems with customs.
  7. OnMyWay. Thanks. You said it all. The same topic is usually posted almost every 2 weeks.
  8. It also depends on who is doing the shopping at the markets for food. It might be cheaper for a thai, than a farang.
  9. That's for sure.
  10. It doesn't matter which example you want to follow. It's up to each persons needs and what they want.
  11. Yes you are referring to SOi7. He is still out & about in Pattaya. I've talked to him recently and he is still within his budget. There is no problem with living under 20K a month. It all depends on what you want and what your needs are. Everyone will post what there budget is. Every individual will post a different amount. The bottom line is up to you. I can live under 20K, but I live up north and things are a lot cheaper here.
  12. Don't you mean "Long Gone Dong".
  13. I'm not sure of a vasectomy in LOS. But, i'm sure it can be done. I seen a vet neuter a dog on the street here. I watched him and he charged the owner 500 baht.
  14. Gary, thanks for the info. I went into PCD International site. I'll go to there office in Pattaya and check it out.
  15. Gary, does NSI have a web site?
  16. Since the year is coming to a end and tax season is around the corner. How do most of you living in Thailand, file your federal & state returns?
  17. I am not familiar with the Sunshine plan, but I do have the Diamond plan. I am satisfied with it. Later I will probably upgrade to the Platinum plan. When I paid the premium for the Diamond plan it cost me about 29,000 baht for 1 year.
  18. I think so. It takes about 20 minutes or so, to get there from Carrefour to the drivers testing place.
  19. I believe you have to show you have 800,000 baht in the bank, the same day. When you apply for the retirement visa. If you have less than 800K in a thai bank. Your retirement visa will be turned down. The only other way is, if you are married to a thai. Then you only have to show 400,000 baht in a thai bank.
  20. Same physical I had in the military. If you can walk and talk, your okay.
  21. To get a thai drivers license you will need to do the following. 1. Go to Immigration and fill out the forms. Apply for car and for motorbike. Cost about 300 baht. (Ithink) 2. Need copies of your passport and visa stamps. Passport pictures. 3. Need a medical physical. 4. Need thumbnail pics for the drivers license. 5. You will get a statement from immigration, if everything is filled out. 6. Then you will have to go to the drivers testing area, in Rayong. 7. You will need a thai to help you fill out the paperwork. Everything is in thai. Do it for a car and a motorbike. 8. You will also need copies of passport and your currrent drivers license from your country. If they do not accept it. You will have to take a drivers test. I had a international drivers license before I came to Thailand. Got it from AAA. $10. U.S. 9. Wait about a hour or so. Make sure your name & birthdate is correct. 10. Your license the first time is good for 1 year. 11. When you renew your license 1 year later. Do not reapply before the expiration date. You will get a 1 year renewed license. On the expiration date if you apply, you will get a 5 year license.
  22. I think the other member you forgot was Raylene. . Denver helped me a lot before. I thought Dawn and Jan were very helpful. I got the retirement visa last April and it wasn't to bad. Only problem I had, was getting a letter from the bank, showing I had over 800K in it. Whole process to get it, was about 1 day.

Try CarreFour, Lotus or BigC. One of them might have them. Otherwise you might have a better chance to find one in BKK.
