  1. There have been rumors that they were about to close at any time for years but they are like the Energiser Bunny, they just keep on going.
  2. I agree with most of your observations but I'm with Rightsaid, people in Pattaya like to shop in air-conditioned comfort. When it is 100 degrees outside who can do any window shopping in the heat. I still enjoy going to the Avenue especially to shop for groceries since the Villa Market is so convenient especially since they have taken over half of the parking area for their customers. The Royal Garden is still trying to get its footing back since Central Festival opened but they seem to be doing a pretty good job of redefining their mall and holding on to the business that is left. Centra
  3. Hehe, a lot of them. I make the trip three or four times a year from Pattaya and I usually fly Philippine Air from Bangkok to Manila. I would like to avoid the one and one-half to two hour taxi ride from Manila to Clark but for me it is better than getting to AC at 4:00AM. The flight from Clark to Bangkok isn't that bad and I arrive at my condo in Pattaya around 1:30AM so one option is to fly PAL BKK-MNL and then take the Cebu Pacific flight for the return. Also if you arrive in Manila on Sunday the traffic is non-existent so the taxi ride isn't bad at all.
  4. It's typical Thais overreacting to a problem. Probably someone higher up in the Thai government or police had a relative selling the crossing lights and so they rammed the idea through. As you can see, the more they sold the more kickbacks that the sale generated .
  5. If you have a Thai bank account you can top up your AIS card from any ATM. You can put up to 1,500 baht at a time and get one year activation. If you want to top it up from overseas here is a link http://aizhy.com/TOP-UP-YOUR-AIS-ONE2CALL-...Y-P1419609.aspx .
  6. I agree vidman, after the iPhone has been out for all of these years, none of the other phone manufacturers have been able to make a touchscreen or keyboard that works as well as the Apple. Everything is so smooth and works flawlessly every time, hard to beat.
  7. My 3GS that I had before I bought the 4 was a factory original that I jailbroke and unlocked but my iPhone 4 was a factory unlocked. I haven't jailbroke the 4 yet because the main reason I did it with the 3GS was so I could unlock it and turn on and off my data connection, something that the 4 already has. If your iPhone has 4.0 or 4.0.1 software on it they are relative easy to jailbreak and unlock. If you have upgraded to 4.0.2 or 4.1 you will have to wait. It's best not to upgrade your iPhone because all they usually do is close a jailbreak/unlock hole in the software that the hacking commu
  8. It's interesting to hear what other owners say Sailfast. I have an iPhone 4 also and I guess that my only complaint, other than the obvious which is Apples' restrictive policies and software, is that it is too perfect. IMO it is way ahead of the 3GS, especially in the resolution and camera department. Also you don't have to jailbreak it to be able to turn your data on and off, handy here in Thailand. Here in Pattaya we usually have a good signal and I can't make my signal bars go down no matter how I hold it . There is another solution to the ATT problem that you didn't mention. You
  9. I think that your music is the best of any bar in Pattaya. Of course I'm a classic rock fan but I wouldn't change anything, I think that it is perfect as is.
  10. Good one joekicker :). I would imagine that he has a hard time getting it in his pocket also. Smartphones were never intended to replace laptops, they are just a convenient way to have your phone, Net access, camera, notes, and any documents that you need all together in one small package that you can take with you. For surfing the web, etc. a Netbook is always better but if you are out to lunch with some friends and one wants to know how many home runs Hank Aaron hit is is good to have a way to find out with you 24/7. For the use they were intended smartphones are hard to beat.
  11. I have an iPhone 4 and an HTC HD2 that I'm now running Android 2.2 on. As far as the best phone, the iPhone 4 is easily the smoothest, best working of the two. Still I use my HD2 most of the time because I prefer the larger screen and I also like the Android OS better than the iPhone OS. Smartphones these days are so much improved over the past couple of years and they all seem to work great, especially the superphones or the best of the group. Look at several and see what you like best, that would be my suggestion.
  12. Up until last year I always flew China Air for my BKK-Houston trips back home. Last year they discontinued this route so now I fly Korean Air. I flew business class and I always enjoyed flying on China Air, roomy cabins, great serviced, and the business lounge in Taipei was one of the best. I think that Korean is just as good but I can't fly to Houston without an additional stop so I do miss the China Air flights.
  13. I agree the Jomtien Boathouse is a good one, if you don't have to stay in a hotel I think that one of the View Talay 2 condos isn't a bad deal. You can get daily maid service, etc. and you usually have a little better accommodations in the way of flat screen TV's and Internet. Check out dancewatchers.com if this interests you.
  14. Well sort of true, when the iPhone 4G comes out you will be able to upgrade the 3GS but the reason that Apple has limited the 3GS to no multi-tasking is because it just doesn't have the processor horsepower, the 4G will have a 1 MHz processor the same as the Desire and resolution that is similar. The two biggest advantages of the 4G over the 3GS are the processor speed and the screen resolution which really just catches it up to the HTC phones. You also asked about the Facebook apps and similar. While you can do all of them in your browser, it is so much easier if you have an app specifi
  15. I agree with Bigleg, video calls on a smartphone are just a novelty IMO. My Omnia had a front camera for video calls but once I tried it I realized that it wasn't for me. I guess that's the reason that the iPhone 3GS nor the HD2 even have a front camera but all of the other functions like Email, Facebook, the browser are the main reasons for having one.
  16. There are many reasons but I would say that a couple of reasons are to make the phone operate faster and to make it more customizable. Also many of the guys who cook up the custom ROMs usually put many of the popular programs such as the Swype keyboard on the ROM which is a huge improvement on the HTC. Like I said, IMO there are many reasons, like jailbreaking an iPhone it just adds many more ways to customize and use your phone. Most all of the manufacturers put a lot of bloated programs that people never use and just clog things up, the guys who cook up the custom ROMs take those out.
  17. I wouldn't like the idea of paying for an iPhone that wasn't jailbroke and unlocked, that's the first thing that I did with mine . With my HD2 I also have a custom ROM on it (Energy if anyone is interested) so I guess that it would be the same difference. There are pluses and minuses on both sides and both are great phones so it really just comes down to personal preferences, I think that you would be happy with either one.
  18. I have both an iPhone 3GS and an HTC HD2. Both have their good points but I find that I wind up using the 3GS most of the time because of all of the great applications that you can't get for the HD2 and the keyboard.touchscreen. I like the HD2's screen resolution and overall look much better than the plain vanilla 3GS and the processor speed and screen resolution of the HD2 are hard to beat. On the other hand, the touchscreen and keyboard on the 3GS are the best on any phone IMO. You can play music, videos, etc. on both equally as well and if anything the HTC HD2 is the winner because you don'
  19. I just renewed mine last week at Pattaya Immigration, now Chonburi Immigration, and all of the requirements are the same. Maybe some guys like to have an excuse to visit back home, like doing their taxes .
  20. It can be done for the phone numbers, songs, and ringtones and also for the photos that you have under camera but you can't sync your photos in your albums under 'photos' or your videos without using a for pay third party program that I know of. First you have to have your phone numbers already in Outlook or the Mac equivalent, then just sync the phone again for just the contacts and calender and it will transfer all of your numbers to your Iphone. Do not sync your music or ringtones at this time. To transfer your music and ringtones I use a free program called Ifunbox. Just look in your
  21. If you do a lot of downloading and uploading torrents then BBB, even with a premiere account, severely restricts your bandwidth with torrents and that is the reason that I switched. Now I have two ISP's at the condo, CAT and TOT. Neither one restricts my bandwidth when downloading torrents. The CAT connection is the best but it is also the most expensive. If you do a lot of downloading/uploading I would think twice before going with BBB, otherwise it doesn't matter.
  22. I have had a Premiere 4MB with BBB for three years but about six months ago they started restricting my bandwidth, especially on uploads. A few months back I switched to TOT and I get much better speeds with them. I complained many times to BBB but it never did any good and now I'm happy to be with TOT, I think that BBB just has too many customers to service properly.
  23. I live on Buddha Hill and usually eat at Au Bon Coin at least once a week, it's my favorite restaurant. Jose, the French owner, doesn't believe much in advertising and doesn't even have a sign on the main road leading to his restaurant but thanks to people like myself, he is full most every night and a reservation is required. The hardest part about going to Au Bon Coin is finding it, it is located on a soi that runs between Soi Five and Six off Pratamnak Road near the Adriatic Palace Hotel. There is a yellow sign on the side soi advertising a pharmacy, turn off Pratamnak Soi Six there and go
  24. I agree with the previous poster, if you can stay there on points I wouldn't even bother looking anywhere else. They have the best fitness club in Pattaya along with a great pool and the breakfast buffet is awesome. No problem with the ladies and you won't be disappointed.
  25. In Pattaya they have plenty of both at Tukcom.
