Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
CheshireTom replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
You've got to laugh when they talk about replacing obsolete aircraft with the 767. Does Boeing still actually build the thing? -

Not bad for a bit of guesswork ........ Tanker contract given to Boeing ....... The US Defense Department said it was disappointed by the EADS-Northrop decision, but it denied accusations of unfairness. The Pentagon may now be forced to award a contract to Boeing without any competition, a practice US President Barack Obama has sharply criticized as a bad deal for taxpayers. Meanwhile, Boeing used the announcement to talk up its own model for the tanker, based on the commercial 767. "The Boeing NewGen Tanker will be safe and survivable in combat, will save the American taxpayer $10 billion in fuel costs over its 40-year life, and is American-designed and built," Boeing spokesman Bill Barksdale said in a statement. I suppose when your government ensures you can just add a couple of zeroes to the cost, you don't need subsidies. Who could have predicted that! -

Why didn't you get a pension for your PTSD, then? Doesn't it meet the requirements? -

I thought that you were the Yank version of the A380 - big, fat, ugly and reliant upon the taxpayer paying your way. -
You're better off flying to Had Yai and taking a van to the border at Dannok. Plenty of cheap P4P in both Dannok and Had Yai. I done a report on Dannok a while back ........ http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...22&hl=south

Is that from the script of Auf Wiedersehen Pet, or what?

Sorry, I thought you were complaining about the Euro system. As for me, I'm under no illusions whatsoever of how your system works, or what the implications of that are. At least not any more so than your illusion of serfdoms. As for the footie, can't you just borrow a couple of those giants from the basketball league and hoof the ball up to them to head a goal, or two? -

You've got to blame someone. They couldn't just say "Hang on, we're not going to give this to the cheese-eating, surrender monkeys", could they? It's been a pretty good guess, so far. I thought we done subsidies and the US done bailouts? p.s. Fancy going halves on the US to beat England in the World Cup? The US are 11/2 (6.5 in your odds?) to win. -

Not really, the award of the contract to the French is what's unacceptable. It doesn't matter if it was BigD building the things out of balsa-wood in his backyard - that would be more politically acceptable than EADS. The procurement people tried to award the contract to EADS, but that was politically unacceptable to their lords and masters. Just like I said. -

I think we had this conversation a few years back. I don't think they'll automatically defer to Boeing, only that they won't award the contract to Northrop/EADS. -

Hub, It's a pittance compared to what the US government will ensure is pushed Boeing's way with the tanker nonsense. -
I booked the Sabai Inn by phone yesterday. No deposit required.

Emirates current rules are shown in post #9. 32 kg is the max per bag - much in line with EU legislation.

You are correct ....
-
Qatar offered 30 kg on attaining burgundy level in their FF programme. You can only achieve that after having made your first flight - you have temporary membership (and 20 kg baggage allowance) up until that point. FWIW, Oman Air offers 30 kg to all economy class pax.

You'll only get an extra 15 days at a land border.

Bringing a motorbike on the long haul train?
CheshireTom replied to passport220's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You can certainly take a bike on the long-distance train. It's OK if its a small 110-125 type bike but don't expect the stations to have loading ramps if it's anything much bigger. -
And if he does a search he'll find the latest reviews were before the place was finished and the threads prior to that had zero replies.

Why not just draw local currency from your UK account at the ATMs? Unlike Cambodia, it's neither compulsory, nor even particularly advantageous, to be dealing in USD in Vietnam.

Yet another "Dear John" from Air Asia-All In fares from USD 25
CheshireTom replied to bigdelta's topic in Airline Discussion
You can't reschedule less than 48 hours prior to travel. For international routes - 950 Baht plus any difference in fares for aircraft operated by Thai Air Asia - it may be slightly different for those operated by Air Asia or Indonesia Air Asia. -

Not true at all. It costs you, but you can change your dates. It still makes it worthwhile buying the tickets at the offer price if you are likely to change only one of your dates. -
Somerset Lake Point Hotel
CheshireTom replied to Fireman Sam's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi Sam, I would guess around 200-250m down the soi. I won't get home until Thu now, but will include a snap from google earth with a measured route marked on it. You should be aware that access to the soi isn't directly from Sukhumvit, but from Ratatchadipsek (the top end of the soi disappeard when they widened the road to create Asoke junction). I'll show it clearly on the map.
