  1. Yeah, I work at LHR and know the Thai staff quite well. They tell me they won't get the A380 until 1st or 2nd quarter of 2013.
  2. Just to warn anyone that has booked with Thai Airway LHR-BKK or BKK-Lhr, they are cancelling many flights in June due to very low load factors. I can see their point, it's stupid for them to run 2 less than half full flights a day when they can just combine them into one flight. I know the flight I was due to go on the 17th June in the evening has been cancelled, and am now rebooked on the morning flight the next day. I know they are running morning flights only on 17th, 18th and 19th June, and apparently there are many other cancellations throughout the month. So check with Thai reservations
  3. No, no plans to replace the bus service with anything more high tech I'm afraid. The original plan was to have all BA flights operate out of T5, but toward the end of construction, they realised that they had too many flights, and they would simply not fit them all in. So they chose to put a few flights in T4 and T3. The only reason I can think why they chose BKK/SIN/SYD routes for T3 is that if the flight gets cancelled due to mechanical or other reasons, it would be so much easier to move those passengers to THAI, Eva Air, Singapore Airlines and the like (if they had available seats of
  4. Yes, I work at LHR and can confirm that the BA (and also Qantas) flights to BKK currently leave from T4 but will move to T3. They were initially to move to T3 in oct/nov 2008, but that was moved back due to the intial problems at T5. I went over to T5 a while ago and everything seemed to be working ok. Just remember if you are connecting through T5 (arriving in T5 and departing from T1, T2, T3 or T4 and vice versa) you now need at least 2 hours minimum connection time as T5 is the other side of the airport and u have to take a fairly lengthy bus ride. You will not need to go through the
  5. Another good thing about UA is they are now upgrading their international business class to lie-flat bed seating, and also improving their 1st class too. This process will take some time, but they already have a couple of aircraft in circulation. This process is set to be completed by 2009. Can't wait to give it a go!
  6. Recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista. I notice now that when I log in to Pattaya Talk, it loads the forum as it was when I last logged out. I have to refresh the page to see if for example there have been any replies to my trip report. If I then click on my trip report, it again loads the page from when I last logged out, and again I have to refresh the page. Also, when I click logout, it loads the members only page again, so obviously I am not logged out at all. I have noticed the same thing happens with my Flickr account also. Anyone else have this problem? How can I resolve it?
  7. Emirates will use the first A380's on their LHR-DXB routes. Not sure if they will operate it on MAN-DXB, or DXB-BKK, but that DXB-BKK flight is always full every day so it wouldn't surprise me.
  8. The first song that reminds me of LOS is 'Underneath Your Clothes' by Shakira, as on my 1st trip, my TG in Phuket used to sing the words (at least the ones she could pronounce) in my ear whenever they played it in her bar. Also I like 'Sexy, Naughty, Bitchy' by Tata Young, 'Numa Numa Dance' by Ozone, 'The Day You Went Away' by M2M, and a thai song called 'Do Re Me' (but I can't remember the singer's name); all songs I heard in various bars around Thailand.
  9. You are given the plastic bags at LHR. I don't know about the other U.K. airports.
  10. Thai Airways used to have their own lounge at LHR but it became prohibitively expensive to run. I know the Manager of Thai at LHR and he seems to think the SAS lounge is adaquate, but no more. They use this lounge as SAS is the ground handling agent for Thai at LHR. But as SAS only have economy and business class on their flights, they do not have a separate 1st class lounge, which I believe Thai would like. If you have a Star Alliance Gold card you can use any of the other Star Alliance lounges if the SAS one is too busy. United has one at lounge G, and Singapore has one on the way down t
  11. Yes I also work at Heathrow, and can confirm that the BAA security are being quite stringent with the size of your hand baggage. Yesterday they sent back 1st class customers to me to check in their hand baggage as it did not quite fit in the template unit that they have all over the airport. So you'd better check that your hand baggage is going to fit in this template BEFORE you go to check in, so you can repack your stuff if it doesn't fit and put any excess into your checked bags.
  12. Yes I agree with nidnoyham, Heathrow can be a very stressful place to work. I have worked there for the last 10 years in Terminal 3. It's true some staff do have an attitude problem. But I am sure a lot of these people's attitude come from the environment they are working in. I have seen many new staff join who could not be more helpful, but as the months and years go by they slowly get more and more depressed about the environment and the conditions they have to work in. I have also noticed that it seems every year passengers become more and more demanding, sometimes about the most trivial th
  13. I got a pair from unbeatable.co.uk for about 25 quid I think. I used them on my last trip and were pretty effective. I just arrived in BKK yesterday from LHR, got on the plane yesterday to discover I had remembered my portable dvd player, batteries, dvd's... everything..... except my blasted headphones! Had to resort to cannabalising the pair Thai Airways gave me. Otherwise I could look at them and tell you exactly what make they are. But check out the website and you may be able to find them there. Hope this is of some help.
  14. Yes it was Flight UA 838 from Bangkok to Tokyo Narita. Only 1 tyre blew though. Thankfully everyone is safe. Passengers fly out 24 hrs later, so an extra trip down to Nana for everyone on UA's dime!
  15. Actually it is San Francisco to Saigon, and it is via Hong Kong. It begins on 9th December 2004, daily service. They also have traffic rights from Hong Kong, so you can buy a ticket from Hong Kong to Saigon also. United will be the 1st U.S. airline flying to Vietnam.
