  1. Even if I was prepared to have an indirect flight, I wouldn't have a long wait, especially in the middle east. Years ago I have a 4 or so hour wait in Bahrain and I swore I would never set foot in that shit hole ever again.
  2. If you are sure that you won't come back, sell up. If you aren't sure, then maybe retain somewhere as rental costs are so high in the UK.
  3. Agreed, the market for football shirts has gone for the most part. Other stuff makes good coin though.
  4. Most people are too pissed to drive in Pattaya.
  5. What about downsizing ? Realise some cash and have a base to come back to. Maybe buy a flat which can be easily rented then you sort of have the best of both worlds.
  6. Sunshine is only up to 6 months cover.
  7. Your timing is not good and your budget is low. I suggest you book something now. Be aware that prices go up in high season. I suggest you look off the beaten track but unfortunately such places, in your budget, do not usually have a web presence.
  8. You wouldn't believe how some guys run their "accounting " system. Basically they don't have one. No stock control, no order management, them just dipping into the till whenever they feel like it, never able to remember how much they have taken etc. I knew one guy I tried to help but he wouldn't listen who, once he had sold say Bt5k for the day, used to take it from the till and wander out into the night to spend it ! The fact that all cash is not profits escaped him until he found himself broke.
  9. OK, I should have put in I don't want a total shithole like the Nana.
  10. So what is their price and contact details ? I doubt they would be shy in your telling us as they are in business.
  11. I've got to meet my girlfriend at the airport and want to stay a couple of days in Bangkok around 12th December. I was going to use some points and stay in the JW Marriott but I understand her mother is coming for a day as well and I'm not putting her up there ! So, I need a cheap / mid range hotel, preferably with a pool and in the Sukhumvit area. I know the Woraburi, Majestic, Dynasty and all the 4* and 5* places but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most grateful.
  12. Get on google, do a search etc. But seeing as you're a lazy sod, here's some help: http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Asia/...-MISC-BR-1.html http://www.r24.org/ethailand.com/pattaya
  13. The killer factor will be whether you will have your own transport. Pattaya only really has songtheaws (baht buses) and motorbike taxis which may not suit you or your location. I'd come over as you say and get your barings and then look at agents offers. Don't believe what they say, some agents routinely list property at double its real value or rental potential. I live here in Pattaya and have literally laughed at some agents when I tried to negotiate. If you don't want to get transport of your own, somewhere like Chateau Dale off Thepprasit Road may appeal. A few minutes to both Sout
  14. Bt700 now and much better around for that money.
  15. That makes it worthwhile then, someone ordering 2 ! China will probably swallow hundreds if not thousands of aircraft over the next decade or so.
  16. You can't use the homeward leg before the outward leg but you can do the following: Buy a ticket for the outward leg of your Jan trip and the homeward leg of your April trip. Then buy, in LOS, a ticket originating in LOS to fit in with your Jan homeward leg and your April outward leg. Only really useful if the ticket in LOS is cheaper than the one in the UK. Usually not but the tickets in LOS have great flexibility. Yield management for the major airlines does not exist here as it does in the UK.
  17. I agree about the constant "one more" or checking that goes on. It is difficult to create the right balance between attentive but not overpowering service and a continuing headache for the bosses. On the "company" angle, in my opinion, it is inherent in the concept of a girl making money from customers through barfines. I have tried to eliminate this somewhat by not having quotas for barfines or drinks. To be honest though, larger, more open places, such as the FLB and Buffalo Bar will suffer from this more than the smaller beer bar places where the girls are largely seperated behind a cou
  18. Haven't stayed at any of these but what about the new Majestic grande ? http://www.majesticgrande.com/ or try priceline
  19. I went with 5* visa to the border somewhere once. Breakfast at the Sportsman on Soi 13 at around 06:30 and leaving at 07:00. At the border for about 30-40 minutes all tolled. Very easy, nice bus with max of 6 people. About 3 1/2 hours there and back including a 10 minute toilet stop on both legs. Surprisingly good quality meal (sandwich, fruit etc.) on the way back. I think if you were doing it every month you would get bored if they didn't change the movies. Bt2400 all in and easy. I did think about using one of those pick up services but I think that it might just add wasted time
  20. There is a great argument that cases as the one justtony mentions above are the way to go but as he said, they had the experience and cash. I got into the bar business as I had done this years ago and wanted something that would provide income from day one (I bought an existing business). Now I have other things on the go and am looking at other ventures. There can be compelling arguments in favour of having rooms to rent out but I see too many people who have rooms and do nothing with them. That seems strange to me, renting rooms and not selling them.
  21. Isn't it 800k as a one off or 65k per month ?
  22. Are there any distinctions made dependent upon your visa type and / or residency ?
  23. I use a rice cooker but I would have thought one of BigC, Carrefour or Tesco Lotus would have a slow cooker.
  24. You won't find cheap condos with ADSL installed before you move in but you could get a telephone line installed. Newer condos will have the internal wiring in place and will just need a simple connection. I had it put into my condo and including telephone line it was around Bt7000 all in. 512/256 is Bt700 and 1024/256 is Bt1000 per month. Monthly telephone costs are minimal, Bt86 per month.
  25. A good option for mid range hotels with good location. A great deal at 10 nights for Bt20,000. I would still prefer the JWM but getting a good price there is more and more difficult. I find BKK hotels crap value wise these days at around Bt1000-1700.
