Brad was wearing his dumbass pirate hat from the fish'n'chips shop when she pulled up in a Corvette. He thought she was digging him, when she was really just staring at the stupid hat. Wish I could be more creative on this one, but we all know Steve Martin & the aforementioned overshadowed everyone else in the film.
