I did all that on previous trips. I went around and looked. Lot of good places to rent but I wasn't ready. Now I'm getting closer. When we look in December and if we find what we like, I'll rent it. One guy I know is interested in taking the other 6 months.

I disagree it wasn't a complete failure. They did manage to get the plane off the ground and flew it for years. It just wasn't economically viable. Other then BA and Air France no other european airline bought any? Why? They couldn't make any money on it. BTW I agree the good ole taxpayer funded it and it was well worth the time and money. Few years ago I was in Israel up near the Golan Heights and a IDF fighter jet went supersonic heading north. The sonic boom was loud at ground level.

How many years late is Airbus in making deliveries and how much in compensation is Airbus/EU taxpayer laying on all the airlines you mention. I think they're in the multi million/billion Euro range. Even if Boeing has some slippages in the fly date it's still not anywhere near the Airbus debacle.

Let's see, I plan on having my wife in Pattaya during December to look at houses. If we find a house we like we'll rent it for a year. I've been to Pattaya/Jomtiem close to 30 times. On occasion, I've traveled all over the area. So you were saying about the lack of advance planning.

I don't plan on having high value items in the house. I would prefer to have someone in the house for the time I'm not there. I'm also looking at renting in a gated community with on site security. Renting a house may end up not being workable. One reason I posted this is because I'm looking for different opinions and ideas. I never rented a house before.

I plan on coming back for a few weeks couple of times during the 6 months my wife's back home. I like the idea of a place with all my stuff in it plus the rents so cheap. The hassle of finding another place is pain in the ass.

I don't disagree with your post. I got ahead of myself on this. If I find a house we like and rent is so cheap, I'd pay for a year.

My wife is coming over in December for a look see. If we find what we want in Pattaya, I'll pay for a rental in December. Udon is still a possibility. We plan on traveling by car and exploring Thailand. Our plans are flexible and in the future we're not locked into staying in Pattaya or Thailand. We like the Bay of Islands in New Zealand and Perth, Australia. More expensive but we like both locations.

I see all the new condos being built and I wonder where they are going to get the water, electricity and sewer capacity.

Possibly starting 1 January but I may be able to talk my wife into staying from 15 January through March or April. This all depends on how are daughter is adjusting to being a college girl. If everything goes smoothly back home we may spend part of this winter in Pattaya. I like the sound of that, this winter in Pattaya.
