It's not logical, that's the first thing to understand...and deal with. Licensed bars, gogos and other indoor establishments will close, fearing the loss of their licenses or the arrest of their license holder. Big bribes are paid to avoid these "problems", but many businesses cannot afford the bribes...and close accordingly.

The way I interpret the situation is, come March, he will not be able to extend his spousal visa due to not having the funds to show, and not wanting to bribe immigration to ignore that fact. If he doesn't have an "O" to Oct 2012, then he will have to make 15/30 day visa runs from March to Oct 2012 (which will certainly be more expensive than paying off the immigration guys to give him an extension). The simplest, and most legal, solution would be to return to the UK at Xmas, not bothering to get a reentry for the spousal visa, get an "O" 1 year, and return with a visa that will last him until Xmas 2012, well past his return date. What's not clear about that?

I'm thinking the same thing...if he knows he won't have the 400K to show for renewal in March 2012, and doesn't want to pay the 19K bribe to immigration to get an extension without the proper funds in the bank, then the best way to stay until Oct 2012 would be to chuck the spousal visa and get the non imm O in the UK over the Xmas holidays.

Just to update this topic...the police closures around 3am are still continuing regularly and on a daily basis. Many gogos have now adapted to this by scheduling an earlier opening time and a regular 3am closing time, rather than staying open until the staff fall down from exhaustion. I'm sort of liking it now. Of course, you can still drink till the wee hours in Ibar and then Insomnia.

I think I'm going up to the village to allow the TGF a chance to vote in her province. She just told me that if she doesn't vote (I think she said 3 times in a row), she is disqualified for government work and many commercial jobs requiring "good citizenship". So, though voting is not mandatory, voting records can affect one's future career. It sounds like a good system, but it's sort of worthless if they keep throwing out the elected government.

There is a builtin limit of 10 photos per post using the new attachment uploader. I found how to increase this, so it is now set to 100 photos per upload...subject to the maximum photos allowed in a post (based on your user group). I have been using photobucket to include photos in posts, but with the easier upload capability of this forum software, I will start attaching photos directly to the posts instead. That way, photobucket can't get their grubby hands on the photos and delete them.

It's actually in two places on the main forum page...once at the upper right, and once on the left above the member list. But, once you move to viewing a forum's topics or reading posts, it's in the one place at the upper right. I find I am using it more than the VIEW NEW POSTS. There is an upgrade to the board software coming in a short while that will hopefully address this issue.
