  1. Some good points, lovedog. I just wish they'd keep moving when they see somebody doing some silly show in the street. I've found that you can make them disperse by passing a hat around for tips.

    The Godfather.
  3. I feel sorry for them being stuck out in the middle of nowhere at Ambassador City. From what I have seen, many of the big, old, hotels have been full up with package Russian tourists. Yesterday, I was driving towards Jomtien on Thappraya, and noticed many groups of Russians standing along the side of the road waving at baht busses. What they saved on accommodation cost, they probably lost on transportation costs. Still, it would be nice if they'd get off the streets and into some of the bars and restaurants rather than blocking traffic.

  5. My guess (and hope) is that they will stop coming as the weather improves in the former USSR. They take up way too much space, stand on the streets listening to live music with their 7-11 drinks, stop to watch anyone who is doing a "show" of any sort, block the roads, fill the songthaews, crowd the 7-11's....not a lot positive to say about them.

  7. Nothing in there I can see about banning water. I think the topic title poses a very real question.
  8. I was thinking about putting that in as an exception! Then, again, them too, why not?
  9. Even without sidewalks, if you are walking in a group on a road or soi that is shared with vehicles, walking abreast, blocking the road unthinkingly without care or concern for vehicular traffic makes you a target for all sorts of road rage, including the well-timed horn right on your ass. Stay to the sides of the soi. You don't need to hold hands with your mates. Not surprisingly, the biggest abusers of the road sharing "etiquette" are those from countries where the guys do hold hands while strolling.
  10. Should we ask him to highlight the ironic, tongue-in-cheek comments with smilies?
  11. Looks like someone doesn't get irony
  12. It seems many of the complaints are about life in Pattaya, not LOS in general. So, with that in mind, my Pattaya peeve is the stupid people who walk in the street 3 or 4 abreast when there are sidewalks available to walk on, or without sidewalks, they could walk single or double file. They should be mowed down by a baht bus or passenger bus. This usually can be seen in the 2nd Road area just south of Marine Plaza.
  13. Well, if someone wants cheap beer, aside from going to 7-11, places like New Plaza are just the thing. I wouldn't expect them to have much else, but if you want cheap beer, why not?
  14. I hear good things about the bars in Pattaya New Plaza (across from Soi 8 on 2nd Road) regarding the low price of their beer. If you go, let us know what you think.
  15. So, it was simply an opportunity to make a generalized off-topic swipe at Americans, without regard to the content of the previous posts where posters from other countries, including your own, acknowledge they tip as well. Gotcha. If you want to get into a general discussion of tipping, it's going on here ... started by a Canadian, btw.
  16. I looked for a movie by that name, but didn't find it. Was it produced independently?
  17. Well, offshoreibc, if this is your sales technique, and it works for you, I'm surprised. You got your couple of days of free advertising, though I think it's pretty much irrelevant what you are selling. You'd have trouble selling water in the desert, from what I can see. I'll give you a chance to make a final pitch to see if you can dig yourself out of the hole you've put yourself into, then I am closing the thread.
  18. Of course there is more than one dentist at PIH. Dr. Danika worked there during the time Dr. Aree has been there. I was commenting on your use of the word "predecessor" (see CheshireTom's post).
  19. So, you're not going to apply then?
  20. After just a glance at the menu, I don't see the multiple course meal I ordered the last time I was there. It was about 1500b total. Now it looks like everything is a la carte, and would be considerably more expensive. I might have to think twice about going there now
  21. Dr Aree's predecessor must have preceded her 6 or 7 years ago then, because I've been going to Dr. Aree at PIH for over 6 years now. In any event, I don't know anything about Dr. Darika myself.
  22. BTW, I did a little moving and merging from the "Dilemma" topic, and the forum software makes it look like jacko (with the earliest post) was the topic starter. I just thought a local dentist discussion was better alone than being buried under some NHS dental stuff in that other topic. Apologies to jacko and DJMiami for making things a bit more confusing.
  23. As I recall, this 5 baht/10 baht discrepancy was made obsolete a few years ago when the fare was made 7 baht. Everyone now pays 10 baht, rather than producing exact change, Thais and others. When it was 5 baht, Thais used to be able to pay 5b, but farangs were "expected" to pay 10b. So, for the purposes of travel within a zone, 10b is the price for each person. Wow, it's a baht bus price thread!
  24. I have to admit, I never checked her prices vs the clinics. I thought so. I had a crown done there, and it was about the same as a clinic, as I recall. You can call for a schedule of prices 038428374. That's the main switchboard of the hospital, so ask to be transferred to Dental or her office. If you do try her, let us know if her prices are reasonable.
