  1. Thanks guys for taking your time to reply, much appreciated and helpful, and Jacko...'educational movies' - whatever do you mean
  2. Hi folks, I will be staying over for a while, and would like to buy a very cheap DVD player to hook up to the TV in my room. Nothing fancy just something that will play a few movies, while i slowly wake up from the night before's activities. Is Tukcom the place to go, or can anyone reccommend anywhere else. What would be the bottom line cost ? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi folks, a friend of mine is about to do a TEFL course here in England in the New Year. She is a French National, although has lived here for over 20 years and probably speaks English better than most natives. As you would expect she is fluent in French and also Spanish too. She has a strong passion for languages and would like further this by teaching overseas. She has experience teaching French and English voluntarily in Mexico for about 3 or 4 months. She would ideally like a placement in Thailand assuming she gets through the course but is worried that as she is a French passport holder and not an English speaking native, she won't get a placement anywhere. Could anybody shed any light on this, as it's really putting her off. Also can she get a placement in Thailand without a degree? The people running the course are saying yes to both questions but are they just saying this so she signs up for their course and pay the money? Any thoughts or experiences would be gratefully received. Thanks
  4. OK thanks people for your replies and advice
  5. Hi folks, a question for those of you who have redeemed your FF miles in the past. I currently have 120,000+ miles with KLM and i was looking to venture over to LOS for xmas. The usual 'cost' for this trip with KLM from my local airport is 40,000 miles each way. I know i have left it late in the day to book, but had business committments, but when i checked out KLM's website everything is 80,000 each way !!! Lo and behold i do not have enough miles. I have tried various routes from various UK airports and also into the likes of KUL and Singapore even just to get me out there and then get a budget flight to BKK, but everything is 80,000. I then came across the fact that KLM's airline partners will let you spend KLM miles on their flights. Two of the partners which stood out, would be Jet and Malaysian. Has anyone booked a flight like this and how did you go about it? What would the mileage 'cost' be (same as KLM ?) Details seem very sparse on the respected websites concerned as I guess all parties would rather you did not do this. Any help would be appreciated. If not I will pay my fare and use the miles for Easter / Songkran Thanks people
  6. Out of curiosity, Is alcohol served on Etihad flights
  7. Hi folks, I am looking at booking a flight from London to Bangkok at very short notice in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I prefer to travel direct so Thai or Eva are my options. I have found a Thai Air flight through Ebookers for £627 with the same flight directly from Thai Air website at £650. I may extend my stay for a week whilst there so I need to be able to change the return if needed. Ebookers they say it will be £100 to do this after departure, but I do not understand the fare rules on the Thai Air site (I have cut & pasted the 'Q' fare rules, see below) ***note - refunds:unused tkt - fare paid less gbp75. :partly used - ow fare n cnl fee gbp75 to be deducted from fare paid. changes:for 1st trvl date - permitted at gbp75 if the new trvl date result as; lower fare :no refund will be given higher fare :diff.fare + fee gbp75 up-sell :diff.fare + fee gbp75 the tkt must be reissue :for onward date - foc within tkt validity. rerouting : ticket is non reroutable.*** As I see it if i wanted (which I dont) to change the 1st travel date (outbound) it is £75 + possibility of difference in fare, and if I change the onward date (return) it is Free of charge as long as it is within the validity of the ticket which is 1 month. Would any of you guys care to comment if I am reading/understanding this correctly, cos I'd rather pay the additional £23 in fare to start with and then use the free of charge option if necessary. Thanks guys
  8. I've used them just the once, yes they were there waiting at the airport and yes there was a cold chang but it took almost 3 hours to Pattaya In his defence there was a bit of construction.
  9. Thanks guys, thanks for taking time to reply.
  10. Hi folks, I am looking at bringing my own golf clubs over on my next visit, I was wondering how things work with the baggage. I am usually very close to my 20kg limit with just my suitcase, so will I have to pay excess baggage or is there a set fee when taking clubs. I usually fly Eva , Thai or KLM from UK, if it's any relevance. Thanks
  11. Voila...thanks lads, I put the sim back in and yes it worked, I retrieved the message. All panic about nothing Once again thanks
  12. Hi all, I have just returned to the UK after a month in LOS. I have a Dtac sim card which I use when there. Whilst in Thailand I received a SMS Text message. Unfortuantely since coming back to the UK I have been unable to access this message. Does anyone know if there anyway of retrieving this message or is it a case of putting the sim back in my phone and booking a flight back !!!!!! Cheers
  13. Watch that baggage allowance with China though. They have 20kg allowance in economy (dunno about Business), but they caught me for £200 for excess weight when i flew back from Bangkok with them last January :-( I did protest and the guy behind me in the line even put some of my stuff in his hand luggage to help me out, but she werent budging. I had to pay up and look good. Food is spot on though.
  14. 2000 Baht between the 3 of us. It took about 3 hours to get to Pattaya.
  15. Thanks for the info guys, as luck would have it there were 2 others on the boat both heading to Pattaya, so as we had missed the last direct bus which like you say is at 3pm we hired a private minibuss and shared the cost, so all smiles in the Land of Smiles
  16. Hi there i will be arriving in Trat after making the border crossing from Sihanoukville to Trat via the Koh Kong - Hat Lek crossing. I was hoping to make it to Pattaya the same day. According to the timetables (leaving Sihanoukville at midday), I assume i'll be in Trat at about 5 o clock in the evening. Are there any buses or mini buses going to Pattaya at this time or would anyone know the cost of a taxi ride. Another idea i've had is a bus to chantaburi and then change buses to Pattaya. Anyone know if this is possible and what numbers or buses i would need. All help gratefully received. Thanks
  17. Hi there i will be arriving in Trat after making the border crossing from Sihanoukville to Trat vis the Koh Kong - Hat Lek crossing. I was hoping to make it to Pattaya the same day. I am leaving via boat approx midday and so i am told its 3.5 to 4 hrs plus an hour to get to Trat. Therefore I assume i'll be in Trat at about 5 o clock in the evening. Are ther any buses or mini buses going to Pattaya at this time or would anyone want to share a taxi ride (any idea of cost). Thanks
  18. Hi all, I am currently in Pattaya and my favourite Thai dish of Boo Ja seems to have disappeared of everyones menu. It is crab mixed with minced pork and various herbs usually served in the shell of the crab. Mr 99 on the beach road used to do it but have sinced changed their menu, and I'm sure one of the seafood joints on walking street did, but i can't find it anywhere. So if you see it on any menu, let me know....thanks guys
  19. I took your advice guys and booked in with Dr Aree, and have to agree with you, what a breath of fresh air she is. Admittedly i am not too bothered about seeing the dentist or 50 Chelsea skinheads for that matter...lol....but Dr Aree was superb. The funniest bit when she puts the cloth over your eyes to stop and water splash and she says "goodbye" Then a "Hello" when she removes it. I also got the singing during my visit. Prices were very reasonable indeed. Thanks guys
  20. Looking at getting a flight over to HCM for a weeks travelling around. I have been quoted over 11000 baht by Thai and 9000 baht with Air France. Anyone know of any other deals or airlines i could try for a cheaper fare. Looking at going next week about 26th Jan to 1st Feb although flexible a day or two either side. Thanks in advance. Kleyshay
  21. I always use Honest Custom Tailors. They are located on soi 8, about 30 metres back from the beach road on the right hand side as you walk towards the beach road. The young guy to speak to in there is called 'Boy' Had a few suits from him both for me and the missus and they were all spot on. Dunno if he's the cheapest but, I've always been happy with the quality.
  22. Hi packhike, do you have to be flying with Eva at the time or can just anyone pay to go in there?
  23. Hi all, I've just returned today from LOS to UK. I usually opt for KLM from Norwich thru Amsterdam and onto BKK, as I am a FB Elite member etc etc But on this occasion I decided on KLM to AMS then China Airlines to BKK due to price, about £150 cheaper this time. On my return I a had 35kg suitcase!!! I am so used to my extra luggage allowance, with KLM, I didnt give it a second thought about the excess baggage, they dont normally bother if i'm slightly over and to be honest I thought I had 28kg tops! The very kind check in girl advised me I was 15kg over an it was gonna cost me 15 x 1355 baht (a whopping 20,0325 baht). After some negotiations in both English and my limited Thai she agreed to waive 5 kg, as the Belgian guy I had met in the queue and had checked in with, only had 19kg with no hand luggage, and he said i was carrying some bits and pieces for him (even though we had different destinations!) this still left me with a 13,550 baht bill. Now, in hindsight, I know I should've crammed my hand luggage a bit more and brought home a bit less, but I am sure I remember there is another way of doing this, ie a company that you can pay at the airport for excess baggage. I might be way off mark here, but I remember a similar incident with a friend of a friend a few years back and I'm sure he said this was a cheaper way of paying. You help and input on this will be appreciated.
  24. Robin - this is what their website says: Q: Is there an additional charge for joiners/over-night guests? A: All of our rates quoted are for 1 or 2 persons sharing the same room. Therefore, if a single guest brings back a joiner, there is no additional fee. If you have a third person in the room, there is an additional charge of 500 baht per person, per night.
  25. Thanks guys, yeah i know Tony in the Candys shop, so i'll give hime a go. All the best
