  1. SOMETHING WRT the hosting changed at the time of the move, since IE9 users weren't experiencing the problem prior to the move. ' Worked with govt & contractor operated server farms for years, and claims to the contrary notwithstanding, there's no such thing as 100% hosted application-to-hosting environment independence. Maybe there is in fact an IE9 setting that will restore IE9 compatibility, but so far the only resolution I've heard is in fact not a resolution but a workaround: use another browser.
  2. Well, I think it's an IE9 compatibility issue, but there are 3 pieces to the puzzle: the forum software, IE9, and the new server facility. I know I never had the problem until the move to the US servers, but now consistently have the problem if I try & use IE9 but not if I use Chrome or Firefox.
  3. Try & keep up. Complete cast of characters & detailed circumstances already provided. But sense you are lookin' for an "out". If you usually quibble & prevaricate in this manner, I don't think the bad guys have much to worry about...
  4. Again, my experiences always positive, but there's kind of a case study here. It's not that great to have a place branded hit or miss. Hopefully the owner takes some of these observations seriously and actions them.
  5. Yeah, if you do the Happy Hour 241 at that 2nd Rd pub, I wouldn't plan on a late evening...
  6. Had one - er, three actually - in Udon at that bar with a live band across the street from UD Town. Very good. Maybe the best I've had in Thailand. Never had one in Pattaya I'd go back for. The ones in that relatively new 2nd floor pub in the Avenue Mall on 2nd Rd aren't too bad.
  7. Oh stop whining about Bush & Cheney. Obama's in his 2nd term now. Sheesh. Move on! He's had the power for 4+ years now to do whatever he wants, to/for whomever he wants, and proven his willingness to exercise those prerogatives, for over 4 years. If you wanna' stand on principle with CBP in a post-911 world, knock yourself out. And it does sort of come across that that's what you're about. That train has left the station. Travel, like privacy, property, and soon the right to defend yourself, are no longer rights, but privileges. Keep electing big govt liberals, and you can expect more
  8. If so, none on my flight. ' Would certainly have affected my assessment...
  9. By way of follow-up (not that shipments OUT of Thailand seem to be an issue) but my DHL docpak fm the ofc on 2nd Rd, sent late afternoon on Dec 22 was signed for at its destination in the US the morning of the 26th. Tracking shows that it was avail on the 25th. Between Christmas & the weekend involved, 'can't complain about that!
  10. It is dark there, making checks & menus sort of a challenge at night. But the location is worth it, and the dark ambiance is true of many places and I myself kind of like it. You can buy really cheap and quite small LED pocket lights all over, and they come in handy in situations like that if you can get in the habit of carrying one with you at night. (Or just use your phone.)
  11. Has EVA gotten more expensive, or Thai cheaper?
  12. Well in theory yes, since resolving a URL to an IP is what DNS does. And it could be a DNS issue with these proxy webservers some of these networks are using. However, I'm currently here in Udon, and just come from an IC where my IP trick did not work. 'Wonder if some of these proxy webservers are caching DNS, and aren't handling some URLs as well as they should be in unusual cases. I'm guessing the .rr. in the one that's giving me problems is shorter than some arbitrary min length these proxies are expecting. (Though ping.eu works just fine.)
  13. It's a little OT I guess since only a regional airline, but I just flew Nok and have to give them TOP marks for their FAs! Wow! There was one who actually showed me to my seat, and she was an absolute stunner! The other 2 were only maybe 8.5s or 9s... Don't think I quite get the corporate logo, but WTF cares? When I was a kid, long before unions destroyed the concept, I can remember when US airlines all had very attractive stews. {sigh...}
  14. WRT what's legal abroad vs in the US, there is no federal prohibition on prostitution in the USA. It's states & localities that prohibit it or not. Drugs, yes. Human trafficking, yes. Child porno, yes. But prostitution, no. That said, porno of any kind on your cam or laptop will no doubt excite further interest in you if they get that far. But why have it there?
  15. If there's not actually more to this, then I'm sure the ACLU would love to hear from you. I've been through LAX countless times and have neither experienced anything like this nor witnessed anything like this. Have certainly seen my share of folks being searched (sans box cutters). I believe I'll remain calm for now and not go looking for trouble with CBP nor start doing anything different.
  16. Resolved. The networks causing the block are apparently using proxy webservers. If I determine and then enter the destination IP on the address line instead of the URL, I'm apparently able to bypass the proxy.
  17. I've heard this as well (the 'one allowed' rule), but only as hearsay. 'Don't go in much for the whole knockoff thing myself much anyway.
  18. There's got to be more to this. Perhaps they were knockoffs, or undeclared items...really can't guess. But although I'm certainly no great fan of what Islam has done to our freedoms, I just have to think this was not totally indiscriminate. That said, I make it a point to not travel with expensive stuff for multiple reasons.
  19. To address your assumptions though, there was one other receptionist present (who wasn't going near this), a bellboy who I'm pretty sure was/is as girlish as the 2 girls and equally intimidated, and a barely visible older woman in a backroom who from what I could see was buried in some ledger books. 'Not a big hotel - I wouldn't have expected a much bigger cast of characters. EDIT IN: Oh, wait a minute . I see this was from Jacko jumping in on a question really meant specifically for MrLV, whose response I'd actually like to hear. (So portions deleted.)
  20. I'm experiencing a new problem with web access to my email account this trip. URL is webmail.san.rr.com. As recently as July, I've never had a problem accessing the site from anywhere in Thailand. This trip however, I can't get to it from most internet cafes I've tried (so it's not a tablet issue), as well as from some hotel wlans, in BKK. From anywhere in Pattaya, no problem. And from some hotels in BKK no problem. It's not an outright block (no thai block notification); it's presumably a timeout. All I see is a 'Waiting...' status, and eventually a Page can not be displayed error message if
  21. Would like to have seen how you'd have handled a scene I witnessed while waiting to check into a hotel last week. The perp in this case was a burka-clad muslim woman who was all over an obviously competely intimidated young thai receptionist behind the desk who was being taken to task for not having a taxi cab, which had apparently been previously requested, ready soon enough for her and her two fellow hens. This muslim woman, dressed like Dickens' ghost of Christmas-yet-to-come and with the loudest mouth this side of Baghdad, was practically screaming at this poor young thai girl, who actua
  22. Yeap, definitely a shelf-life on that kind of thing here. Good luck.
  23. Uncle Stumpy set me right. In all this time I've never noticed those 'Top' links before. Was always looking for something like that at the bottom of the page.
  24. Nope. Not working. Works better with tablet held vertically (fewer swipes reqd to get back to top of page), but still at least 5 or 6 swipes reqd. Far easier/faster in the default browser. Asus 700T BTW.
