'Just tried to check their rates, but their website is screwed up. Asks for arrival & departure dates and then tells you your departure date is before your arrival date (when it's not). Crap like that makes a bad impression.

Majestic Suites fronts on Sukhumvit, doesn't it? Across from Nana Hotel (or nearly) would be Dynasty Inn.

Ooooooh nooooo. At least so I've been advised. ANY storage of food along with your clothing supposedly invites insects over time. (Even clothing with food or grease stains on it.)
-
Yeap - have thought of that. I think you can buy desiccant in larger containers. 'Just wondering how it will hold out over intervals of up to several months in the humid climate there, particularly during the rainy season. (Then again, only planning on a small space.)

Thanks! I'll check them both out. 'Sounds like avoiding mildew is going to be an issue with this idea.

Can anyone recommend a personal storage location, either in Pattaya or Bangkok? Am planning frequent/extended visits going forward, and thinking I could save myself packing & carrying clothes & such back & forth if some minimal & reasonably priced storage space could be obtained in Thailand. Just for what I'd otherwise be packing in a suitcase, so don't need much space, but should be in an accessible location and competently run ('don't need my stuff mildewed). Security's important, but not planning to store anything high-value.

Town Lodge Hotel, BKK, Sukh Soi 18

'Have stayed there myself and liked it. I always travel light, and so the lack of elevator was not much of an issue. 'Never did see much going on in Toxic though. They used to run a tuk-tuk for guests back & forth to the head of the soi. -
'Wonder if (a) they'd give it to you, and (,asking for it in the first place would bring attention to yourself. There are inexpensive personal locking systems you can buy for use with these safes (that will prevent the safe from opening even if the correct combination, 'default' combination, or backup/maintenance key is used).

Pattaya October Storm Watch - Gaemi coming
tomcat76 replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I was wondering how such a storm could maintain its strength while crossing over that relatively large landmass of Vietnam & Cambodia... In the Caribbean, just crossing over the Florida peninsula, a hurricane can lose a lot of its strength by the time it reaches the Gulf of Mexico (where it can start to build again, of course). (But I guess you do have to differentiate between storm strength and rain potential.) -
I thought is was just for use of the kiosk bypassing the immigration lines. Does it short-circuit the customs lines, too? (I ask because you mention the Asians with huge amts of luggage, and you don't get your luggage until after you're finished with immigration, and then have to go through the customs check.)

Mmmmmyeah -- 'sounds like good advice.

LOL 'Not sure about the flies & insects part, but that might have some potential as a sexy show (wi some audience participation...)

'Nope. I mean that'll work. But it burns up the antenna, which is solid evidence that it's been tampered with, which is illegal. The hammer just has to impact it enough to render it inop, and given the punishment some passports take, is not necessarily evidence of deliberate destruction. You're under some obligation to safeguard your passport, but not to prevent wear & tear.
-
You can always take a hammer to your passport, but doing so 'will possibly single you out for secondary screening...

The last few years, I've been making it a point to hand them my passport with the Arrival Card (completely filled out of course) inserted between the pages where I would like the stamp, and to my surprise, that's where they've been putting it.

Server New Pattayatalk server issues - put them here
tomcat76 replied to MM's topic in Technical problems or questions.
'Haven't had any opportunity to try a different network connection yet (although I think that's pretty much what the VPN is, and that doesn't seem to make any difference). I HAVE been working with Chrome on my desktop PC, and IE9 on a laptop. Chrome doesn't seem to be exhibiting the problem, while the IE9 laptop continues to. -

I'm used to filled aircraft. It's screaming babies I can't stand... -
'Been coming since 1984. Have stayed quite an assortment of different hotels in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, AC & a few other places. Always used in-room safes, or safety deposit box in lobby when I had to. Never had a problem using either (but have started layering on a personal security device as well). Used a few ATMs last trip as well - actually feel less secure using them, entering PINs & accessing accounts from here in Thailand.

I'm with ya' brother.

Am planning more frequent & longer trips in the years ahead, and would like to have the account. I'll be on the ground 30NOV. 'Will put this near the top of my to-do list, and I guess try Kasikorn first. Thanks.

Server New Pattayatalk server issues - put them here
tomcat76 replied to MM's topic in Technical problems or questions.
I've never had to re-enter my login credentials - only refresh the page. But I think it might be session related. Too much time passes and the http server/daemon closes the connection - or suspends it - or something. Login is at the app layer while this timeout I'm hypothesizing is at the session layer. Maybe even happening on a router or some other infrastructure device in the server farm. Too many inactive connections maybe tie up resources, so there's a server or infra setting that's closing them. I don't know. 'Not a showstopper for me. 'Just thought I'd mention it. I do know it was
