Areca Lodge, Sandy Springs or Rockhouse
MC_Ldop replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I like it better than staying between Beach Road and Second Road. Part of the reason it's more interesting is because, as you said, Thai people actually live in that area. Because of this there's a bit less touristy crap and a higher concentration of interesting things to eat. There are more things to walk to in a smaller amount of space. There are some great hotels and cheap guest houses. There are lots of great places to eat. It's a bit out of the way yet still super easy to get around. Personally, I don't care for a seaview of Pattaya beach. It's not like I'm staying in Krabi or anythin -

Not to get in the way of you guys bickering (which is getting really entertaining, btw), but I love the Soi Buakhao area. A lot of other boardies do too. I think it's a fantastic location. -

No need to apologize. I'm not aware of any history between the two of you, so I'm probably ignorant about the situation. Just judging from his words, it didn't seem liked he meant harm--it just seemed like he was expecting a different service from the solution you offer. I don't think there's a right or a wrong here, but your reply seemed rather harsh. My apologies to you! I did not know he was repeat slammer of yours. -

That's an interesting way to attract new customers.... -
If you're butterflying as much as you did last trip then I'd suggest a serviced apartment over a condo. If you're going to stick with one lady for most of your trip (and have her clean, do some laundry, cook, etc.) then a condo would be ideal. As for location, I'd suggest trying another. If you got to see a lot of Soi Buakhao on your last trip then why not try another area? It's fun to explore and find places that you like.

I used Mr. Toom's service in August, both to Pattaya and on the return. The driver was there waiting for me at the airport and was 30 minutes early on the way back. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Mr. Toom.

Kevin Meacher, the proprietor of Jasmine Mansion has several updates to his book's companion site. First up, is a nice bit of reader mail. Naturally, he has a new story for you to read. He's also starting a new contest that features sexy ladies holding his book. If, by chance, you have his book and easy access to a sexy lady then snap some pictures and send them to photos [at] riffraffles [dot] com. Kicking off the contest is the lovely Joy. She'll be followed by several more ladies. Towards the end of the month, you can vote on who the sexiest one is.

I'd stay at Areca. It's just as easy to get to Walking from the Soi Buakhao baht but as it is from Soi 13--it's actually faster by motorbike taxi if you want to go a bit further in (Soi Marine, etc.). I like the Soi Buakhao area much better than any soi between Beach Road/Second Road. -
I believe it was the end of last year. I stayed at an LK place in February and it had the ridiculous password system.

Last time I checked, they don't offer monthly rates for their one-bedroom suites.

Maybe by the time he's ready to ditch and run, the house he was trying to build will be completed. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...c=31782&hl=

Big Al's is decent. Mike's, near Jade House, is better. Keep in mind that these are more TexMex than Mexican, though I suppose that's only an important distinction if you're from California or Mexico.

Utilities for the month were 1,701 for electric and 150 for water. The latter was a flat rate. This was actually lower than I was expecting. At LK Royal Suites I paid 5,953 in utilities for a room that was nine square meters larger than the one at Pattaya Bay Resort. -

I was wrong about this. Apparently a Gecko got into one of the alarms and set it off. *shrug* -

One more tidbit: - The elevator is a bit wonky. Say you're on the fifth floor and you hit the lift to go down. The LED on the outside will say it's going down, but when you get in the elevator and it closes, it'll sometimes go up. It's a minor annoyance that can be major if you have to piss. -

A few more notes about PBR. - Again, I'm really impressed with the hotel restaurant, both in terms of quality and service. The dinner service is particularly excellent. In between courses, I was shocked to be given a bit of sorbet to cleanse the palette. This utterly shocked me. I've never seen this at a hotel restaurant in Pattaya, only some in Bangkok. The staff is also very nice about letting Thai girls bring up food from street carts. They'll put out utensils, plates, bowls, etc. for you. That's a very nice touch. - The outlets are all three-pronged. While I expect this from any ne -

I quite enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Thanks Kolobos! I do wish the food were spicier, but I absolutely understand why it's not. I had three Indian roommates in university so my taste buds are damaged. Bring on the vindaloo!

If you were using system-wide upgrades, would you get screwed booking this way (having to use four instead of two)?

There are only a limited amount of those available and I believe that's only for low season. I tried to book a deluxe for a month, but they didn't have any available.
