  1. Pics added to July 4th thread

  2. Some pics from July 4th at the Chik-N-Coop: Burgers and hot dogs grilled to order: ... The "fixins'" table: The table with the salads, Thai food and chili con carne: Coop's potato salad is legendary: One of the service staff on July 4: ... And some pics from Skeeter's Sky Bar on Soi 6: Things, including the pics, get a bit blurry after that. I don't think I ever made it to hear Pleang sing. But it was a great July 4, at least the parts I remember. Evil
  3. Could be a garden-variety time-share arrangement, which is pretty much a scam in and of itself, but the lack of detail in the OP does indeed make it seem suspect. Evil
  4. I'm scheduled to fly on an Asiana 777, but not until October. Evil
  5. I believe Mr T as well as other taxi booking agents do have numbers that answer 24/07. I deal with Mr Dream and know he does (the Thai Mr Dream, not the farang guy who called himself Mr Dream a few years ago). I wasn't so much suggesting that you flag down a Bangkok cab on the street, but indicating that there are a fair number in Pattaya early in the morning. Some of the Bangkok cab drivers will call the bookers looking for a load back to Swampy. But the best idea is make sure that when you book the cab, there's a number you can call at. 230 a.m., whether it's to the booker or the dr
  6. I've never seen the rooms at Sanya Nightstar, but a friend who stayed there said he liked it. Only thing he complained about was the lack of an elevator. It's definitely farang-oriented and you can't get much closer to WS. One place I can recommend from personal experience (stayed there many times, once for three months in a 75 sq m apartment) is the Mosaik Apartments near Tukcom. Very clean and comparable rates to Nightstar for the least expensive (32 sq m studio) rooms, but a week's stay is the minimum. Evil
  7. Just found out that Sky Bar on Soi 6 is also celebrating the 4th. Skeeter's food is legendary and he'll be offering ribs, buffalo wings, burgers, dogs, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, etc. Things get going around 3 p.m. at Sky Bar, according to the bar's FB page. Evil
  8. OK, maybe I should have said she's not a bad singer. She's trying to make a better life for herself and good luck to her. Bit temperamental and a drama queen from what I understand, but that doesn't really bother me. Some of her outbursts on FB are classic. I like this pic of her: Evil
  9. Shabbiness, like beauty, is always in the eye of the beholder. I didn't see the rooms, but the apartments I saw were in my opinion very shabby. The guests seemed mostly to be Indians and Arabs, with a sprinkling of Russians. Evil
  10. First of all: For any Americans or others who want to celebrate Independence Day in Pattaya, I know of three places. If anyone has more suggestions, please add them. The Chik-N-Coop Bar just off 2nd Road has a July 4th blast beginning at 2 p.m. with hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, potato salad, coleslaw, etc. - all you'd expect at July 4th cook-out. You can find more exact directions and some photos of a recent Chik-N-Coop party here. Tequila Reef on Soi 7 has an "all-you-can-eat" July 4th buffet beginning at 4 p.m. Ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, burritos, all the
  11. I looked at some apartments in Yensabai in February. Very shabby and didn't seem to have many farang guests, but it's a convenient location for Walking Street. Evil
  12. Thankfully, it's never happened to me, but I have seen scenes like this play out several times in the lobbies of hotels and condo buildings, In every case, the hotel or condo staff was able to arrange a replacement taxi in short order. I always give myself an extra 30 minutes when setting the time for taxi pickup to allow for a replacement if the one I order is a no-show. I've also heard it's easy to get a Bangkok-bound taxi between 1.30 a.m. and 3.00 a.m. because of the flurry of flights from Tokyo and other points that have landed at Swampy a few hours earlier and transported passenge
  13. That has happened to me, too, after one of the updates or adjustments to Invision. Turned out be some sort of incompatibility between the version of my browser and the version of Invision. Believe the version of Abode Flash also figured in. It usually cleared up after a few days and an update of the browser. Evil
  14. Corporate chain pizzas are never ranked very high by pizza gourmets in the U.S. and Pizza Hut is no exception. But because of cutthroat competition, it tends to be cheap. It's seen mainly as belly-filler for Cub Scout troops and pre-teen sleepovers or a quick meal for families with younger children. The blandness (no real seasoning), thick bready crust and stringy cheese topping make it popular with kids. There's a saying in the U.S. usually attributed to Mel Brooks, that goes: "Sex is like pizza. When it's good, it's very good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good." Sometimes it's sh
  15. Tacos were the special of the day Tuesday at Tequila Reef on Soi 7 and that's what I had for lunch: one chicken, one beef and one pork taco. They could have used a bit more taco seasoning, but at 50 baht each, they were good as a quick lunch. Evil
  16. After 13 years in New York City (where you can get good pizza), I found Pattaya to be an almost total disappointment. Outside of the slices at the FLB monthly crawls, I virtually never eat pizza in Pattaya. The best I've had in Pattaya came from Mama's Cafe on Soi 6. It was good, equivalent to what you can get at a decent independent take-away place in NYC. But don't expect anything like the pies you get at Totonno's, Lombardi's or other legendary NYC pizza places. From Mama's Cafe: Evil
  17. Is that a local dialect in Somalia? Or a term in Trollish with which I'm not familiar? Evil
  18. +1. My experience as well. A lot of girls in bars speak English at a highly functional level, even if they lack formal education. I'd put quite a few of the hostesses at FLB in that category. Written English can be a bit more difficult for them. Evil
  19. You couldn't do this in the U.S. because of the lawsuits that would result. In the first one, the really funny part starts at 4m28s. I almost p^ssed myself laughing. Evil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxbZgB5UNO8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N5OhNplEd4
