Mailing items to Thailand

A question for the ex-pats (or anyone else for that matter). When I retire to LOS next year, I'll be maintaining accounts and a credit card in the UK. Is it safe to use the normal mail service to send my cash card and credit card out to me in Thailand when they're due for renewal? Or should I get them couriered to me?

 

Whilst I won't be making much use of them, the credit card in particular will come in handy when paying hotel bills etc on my annual pilgrimage out of Pattaya during Songkran.

alan i have just posted a credit card to my brother who lives in pattaya i have posted several items to him in the past using the post office and it has been hit or miss to say the least so i posted him his card using initial city link they charged £38.50 for this service they said it would take 4 working days to arrive but alas it did not arrive at his home address it arrived in bangkok and that's where it stayed my brother rang the office in bangkok to try and arrange delivery and the person in the office kept saying to my brother cannot deliver, cannot deliver so my poor brother had to make an unnecessary trip to bangkok to collect his card stopping off in soi cowboy and patpong to make the journey worth his while of course he has since informed me that i should have fed exed it as they have a good service hope this helps fi33er

Ive stopped using normal mail to send items of any value to Thailand,even royal mail international signed for sucks..

From the USA, Federal Express works great. A bit pricy for just one card or something like that but I sometimes get a bunch of forwarded mail from a couple of months and then it works out OK.. Think it runs something like $34 from the SF area for all that you can fit in a 9 x 12 inch envelope.

The short answer is NO! A friend received about 2 dozen Christmas cards last year about half had a message saying they had enclosed money for the orphanage. All had been slit open and had the money removed.

Iv'e used Recorded Delivery 3 times this summer at the P.O. Costs about 3-4 quid depending on weight. Apparently this mail goes in seperate bags from Airmail and leaves on the next departing flight to Thailand. 3 out of 3 got to Gf address up country. Only one to go missing, was the money she sent home to sister, but she put celotape all over it, making it look like it contained the Crown Jewels. That was ordinary Air Mail though. I do believe the word Pattaya in the address does increase the chances of money contents and of being opened.

Think I may try getting the card couriered out to me though another option is to time visits home so that the card will be delivered to my brother's house shortly before I arrive in the UK.

A friend of mine lives in pattaya and has his local Australian Bank statements sent to my home address. He has told me never post a replacement credit card to him as it will not arrive. We wait until somebody is going there and personally deliver anything important.
