That's most likely up to the financial establishment that's transfering it for you. Your bank, credit card company, Western Union, etc. You'll have to ask them.

When I was married in the 90's, I sent money from my bank to my mother-in-law in NE Thailand and my bank charged me $6 per transfer regardless of amount.

I sent a substancial amount of money from HSBC in the UK to Bangkok Bank in Pattaya and the fees were set. I sent it using SWIFT and paid GBP 20 or so a couple of months ago.

HSBC's agent bank in Thailand is HSBC in Bangkok so you can get hold of them if it gets delayed. If the bank you send the money from does not have a branch in Thailand you should find out who their correspondent bank is.

Took a couple of days for cleared funds and I could select the value date.

the halifax charge 14 pound for the transfer.i assume you are from the uk the post office is good for rapid transactions receive the next day but the charge is more than the bank and they sting you on exchange rate. iam not sure if moneygram can send to your bank as my brother sent me money which was collected in person as i have no bank account in thailand.

If your going to be doing this more than once you could set up a seperate account with your financial institution in your name. Send the debit card by mail to LOS and once they receive it give them the pin number over the phone or email. If your financial institution doesn't charge you any fees, then your only cost is that of mailing the card.

My Austrian Bank does charge me 0,3% of the amount on SWIFT.

There is a Minimum charge of I think 6€.

My Thai Bank charges a flat 500 Bt per Transaction.

Don't send Thai Baht from abroad, use your home currency (in case it is Dollar, Euro, Pound). Then the exchange is done in Thailand at much better rates!

One example a few month ago:

In Austria I would have had the rate of 48,20 to the Baht.

Same Day the rate for cash in Thailand was € 49,90, and the rate for SWIFT transfer 50,40

But check out with the Agent first if he needs a TT3 for the sum, as Thai Banks recently issue TT3s only on amount over $20000.
