Yep, read ALL the mid-range reviews... But the devils in the details that are missing.

 

Looking for a hotel with a level of quality and facilities at least as good as the RG but more centrally located.

 

 

Nice larger room - nice bathroom

Nice Pool

IN ROOM SAFE (big enough for a laptop)

BG friendly - but take IDs

Direct Dial phones (for laptop)

Good Food

In very good repair/condition

Good Staff

website for reservations (or a good site for making them)

 

Budget is aprox. 2000 baht/nite - can go higher if I must.

I had a suite at Sandy Springs last time I was there. It meets most of your criteria. Only thing it doesn't have is in room safe. The Suite is huge with two tvs, very clean. Not sure about internet connection. Price was 1950 baht per night.

You might find a room your looking for in the bottom range of hotels listed in the reviews. Many of those hotels listed have suites that cost above the 1000 baht range.

I'm going to flip the coin on this one and look at the other side. I won't bring a laptop to Thailand, as the Internet cafes are cheap and good enough for me. I also can't "lose" a laptop. In room safe is nice, but one at the front desk is just as good.

 

I do like a direct dial phone, in case of an emergency {medical} . I can get good enough food , it's all around Pattaya.

 

I usually budget up to 1,000 Baht/night, but tend to actually stay at 800 Baht. I'd choose the Baybreeze, as it's location is good, close to internet cafe, good places to eat, clean enough for me and laundry is all around that area.

 

Look at it this way, if you can save up to 1200 baht/night, that does add up over a 1 week time. Lately I've been staying at the Skaw Beach Hotel for 650 Baht/night, as it has everything I need.

 

To me a room is not that important, just give me the basics and I'm content.

Thanks for the suggestions so far but my internet oriented job at home requires that I have a laptop with me when I travel (for emergencies).

 

Most front desk deposit boxes have been too small for a laptop. (Sunshine, Flipper, etc.) I used to not worry about it and just left the laptop in a drawer but a $400 palm vanished from my room last trip (while my laptop and camera were also in plain sight).

 

This was not BG related - Just happened while I was out of the room.

Still looking for something like the RG or better but more centrally located, with in room safe. Around 2000/nite or less.

I know you said centrally located, but have you ever looked at the "Regency Park"? It is located out by washington square about 2-3 bts stops from nana. i stayed there last August 2004, and it is just what you are asking for except for location. If interested send me a PM and I'll give you everything I know. It is real close to soi cowboy too.........

How long are you staying in Pattaya?,If its over 3 weeks try the Penthouse room at One Mansion hotel Soi 3.It takes up the whole top floor of the hotel.Only problem they dont have a pool but you can use the Welkom inn pool

Another option for your laptop security is to buy a safe in Pattaya, maybe between 3000-4000 baht for one large enough for laptop. If your staying for a period of time it could be cost effective for a cheaper room and leave the safe inLOS>

The executive room at the Areca lodge seems to fit the bill @ 2080Baht per night its almost within your budget - I haven't stayed there myself but reports seem to be good.

Here's what I do when travelling, if I may interject.I carry a digital camera ,two world phones ,and a pocket PC, and obviously money ,passport etc.. I purchased a sonic/motion detector alarm from a computer store for 7 bucks. The thing is basically a padlock with a combination lock to release the padlock, and a pin code to arm/disarm the 3billion decibel alarm.

 

If I don't have an in room safe, after I empty my bag of it's clothes, I lock all of the valuables in my travel satchel, with one padlock, and then lock that into my empty bag with the sonic alarm. I place that bag into the closet and arm the alarm. The plus here is that if that closet door opens ,there is 10 seconds to pin the alarm , or that sucker starts screaming. So anyone who is curious about what's where in your room will set it off.

 

The down side is that you have to fight thru two sets of locks just to get stuff out, but I have gotten used to it. I bought one for another mongering buddy, and he booted a girl in the DR after she set it off, and then started lying about what happened..

If Soi 2 meets your requirements for being central have a look at Sabai Lodge, meets all your requirements. Anyway, internet is a bit expensive, they charge 40 Baht for each 20 minutes to dial to loxinfo for example.

Bella Villa Prima Soi 4, has all you need including pool, gym etc...... not sure if the in room safe can fit a laptop, they have in room wireless internet, which is currently free of charge. Cheers

Just stayed for the 2nd time at Sabai Inn new wing. Very nice rooms, not sure if laptop will fit in safe as new had a problem in that areas with the girls i have chosen.

1450 baht off season but internet is dial up.

I hear RG will be going wifi soon.
