I need to get my prescription specs replaced (to see all the action better). I'd like some advice about where to go, cost and time required to sparkle my vision. I'm only in Pattaya for six days :D

Went to the opticians in the morning to have my eyes tested, had my new specs by the evening, that was the shop next to Tims beer bar, cost around 12`000 baht so not that cheap, but still better than UK

If you are looking for a cheap price, it will not happen in Pattaya. I had a pair of sunglasses made a couple years ago and when I got them home I discovered just enough difference in the prescription between other glasses I have not been able to wear them. I would not do it again.

know a good place for specs in BKK, it is very near the Asia hotel----called Mandarin Optical. Don't know the name of the street but their phone number is 2089940. Have gotten great service and quality specs the last two trips. They even mailed a pair to me in Mexico..They arrived in two weeks, exactly as promised :P

i've used Pattaya Optical on Pattaya Klang several times now. good efficient service, with no problems as to the perscription.

No help to you (unless I misread the flag), but for those in the states one thing to compare against is http://www.19dollareyeglasses.com/ got a pair of prescription shades from there after my last regular ones, pretty good given the dirt cheap price, about $30 once I paid for sunglass tint and shipping, took a couple of weeks.

I did this about 2 yrs ago and was happy with the eyeglasses. But, I did have a concern about the computerized eye examination. It may be best to have it done the old fashion way at home and bring the prescription with you, to have the eyeglasses made in Thailand.

I paid about 8,000 Baht for a pair with clip on sunglasses, I'm very happy with the frame. It was around the Soi Post office area. I had a monkey bend the shit out of them in Koh Samui and they bent right back into shape.

Had the exam in the AM and the glasses were done by 5PM.

I had a pair of reading glasses that were badly scratched. I took them and my current prescription to the opticions near Boots? in walking street. Four hours later new lenses in my old frames, 1000 baht.

I bought a pair of frames at market buhkao, then took the frames to welcome optical at the top of soi buhkao and honey inn total cost 500 baht

Make sure the frames you choose can have the lens removed and replaced.

Its the frames that kill you at these shops.

I've used TopCharoen optical the last 3 years. They have several branches including one on walking street near Boots. They are a bit cheaper than the Uk but not a great deal. If you don't negociate you might end up paying as much as back home. Turn around time was 3 days.

Don't know about the glasses, but the frames are sure worth their money, and usually much cheaper than here in Europe.......!

As to the glasses, if you have the right prescription, I do not think the quality is different, but do they have both types : glass or plastic ?????

26 days and counting.......

Beautiful Optical

They have offices all over Thailand. Can give you a test, make from a script, or test another pair of glasses and much cheaper. I help with a 10yr old boys expenses and he goes thru about 4 pair a year due to breakage....

Beautiful Optical...ist a Beautiful thing,,,,

Ting_Tong has a damn good point, you can also buy frames on E-bay, if you know your size..

As a note to any members, Central Optics is a rip off joint, they wanted 3500bt to make a set of lenses for me, and when I said pang penoi, they said "how much do you want to pay"? Located on Central road, across from LengKee restaurant.

There was a falang there dropping 6000bt for a pair of glasses, I told him that he just overpaid before I left. He was not amused :beer
