Denny,

You seem to be a more than a little upset that I don't agree with your assessment of the Skytop. It's not as if you have an interest in the place or anything, is it?

Tom

Fair number of guys have liked the place and thought it was good value for the money. Fair number of guys didn't like the place and thought it wasn't good value for the money. I especially liked the guy who compared it to the hotels his company pays for. For some strange reason Sky-Top didn't measure up.

BTW for the ninth or tenth time telling you this. I have no financial interest in Sky-Top or Alex taxi service and I pay the same prices everyone else pays. Except in the spirit of full disclosure one time Alex bought me two beers as his way of saying thanks.

Denny,

What's the problem then? You think it is good value for money and I don't. They are only opinions and, like arseholes, everybody has one. Some folk happen to dislike the Sabai Inn, whereas I don't. Same, same with the Nana in BKK; some guys swear by the place but for me it would rate as one of the last places I would stay in the Sukhumvit area.

I am quite sure that you don't have a financial interest in the Skytop and I acknowledged that. I happen to agree with your views on the Marriott Pattaya and Pattaya Park so I don't post opposing views on them. However, that is not the case with the Skytop. As the famous philosopher, Mr Loaf, said "Two out of three ain't bad!"

Hey guys, now let's get to the real shit. We are all going to stay where we want to stay so it looks like there's no talking any or us out of our preferences.

But I've got a problem and so does everybody else here who consumes any meaningful quantities of Thai food. Although I've got the toilet bowl situation pretty well mapped out by Walking Street, the vicinity around Sois 7 and 8, and that area near Soi 2, I can still use some more suggestions from all of you on safe havens that will give me squatters rights. Don't need any of those friendly massage artists trying to give me a hand while I'm on the crapper so not just any toilet will do.

My real problems will emerge when I start my running program once I arrive back in Pattaya on August 3rd. By then I should be comfortable running a couple miles or so along the Beach or on the streets. My route will be essentially from Skytop which is near Soi 6 on Second Road to Soi 16 up North in Naklua. The terminus or starting point will be the Wongamat Residence condos next door to the Long Beach Hotel.

Along North Naklua Road there are a number of shops, beer bars and other businesses all the way up to Soi 16 where I will turn left and head towards the ocean. Anyone have any good spots where I can squat on the way where I can lighten the load on my intestines? I want a private moment alone without having a bunch of lady boys or mechanics offering me a helping hand. And then once I hit the beach and start running towards Central Pattaya what happens then once the stomach starts to rumble and the tsunami inside threatens to drown the sand? What toilets do you recommend right along the beach, memorable or otherwise?

Beach Road is easy. Any hotel along the route will suit your needs. Use the lobby toilet. Look at your map and figure alternate routes pointing toward 3rd Road. Walk each of the routes and stop in likely places. Seems to me hotels would have the cleanest toilets. When you get this sorted out write a field report. I fore one would like to know where clean toilets are located. Cause when a mans gotta go, he's gotta go. 1luv

Denny,

What's the problem then? 1luv  You think it is good value for money and I don't.  They are only opinions and, like arseholes, everybody has one.  Some folk happen to dislike the Sabai Inn, whereas I don't.  Same, same with the Nana in BKK; some guys swear by the place but for me it would rate as one of the last places I would stay in the Sukhumvit area.

Your the problem! O you want to sound O so reasonable but when you go back thru this thread you try and turn anything Jack said to a major negative. Pete the owner had a hassle with Ollie so he throw him out. You try and infer that Pete is a maniac with aggro problems or Pete would have any idea that Ollie would turn from being your everyday nut case from the UK. Ya, Ollie's from Northern Ireland you can claim him as your own. To a drunken murderer.

When a guy asks for a cheap hotel, I recommend Sky-Top if he's looking for a more expensive place I will recommend other hotels including the Sabai Inn because it's good value for the money. You may have noticed I don't put down other guys recommendations especially with regards to cheap hotels as we need to expand our options. Plus Sky-Top has only 8 rooms I don't want it to be so popular that I won't be able to get a room there.

All in all your the problem, you see a negative you want to blow it out of proportion and run with it. You diminish yourself with your words and attitude. It's not my words that do it. It's all on you.

What's all this talk about hotels? This thread is supposed to be about toilets, and damit, once a conversation goes to the toilet, it stays there.

One point I would add when you are traveling to the less farang-ised places, bring your own toilet paper with you. Just like American Express cards, don't leave home w/o it.

"My real problems will emerge when I start my running program "

Same, but my running problem involving toilets starts on its own after about the third day with too much Thai food.

BIG D

I only encountered the out and needing a dump scenario once but I was well-prepared. Generally because of my diet (lots of beer followed by lost of JD in the evenings) I have a good clear-out in the morning. This happens to me whenever I go out on the sess unless I have Guinness which besides turning your shit black can harden it's departure.

Anyhow, the Thai food probably adds a little too. The only time I had the thruppney bits I just took an imodium tablet as like u I don't want to get caught out in the bars! They're toilets are really bad. And yes whilst we're there I overpay them too - don't want the change so usually give them Baht 10.

Anyhow in short stick to the same diet like me and you go pretty regular at the same time (mornings in my case) and so you're fine for later in the day and the night's drinking activities.

I did notice the first Thai girl I went with went to shower an unbelievable amount of times but later I figured she must have had the shits!!

Link to post

I have noticed that too....that several Thai girls I went out with had the shits pretty often since they were going to the toilet even more often than I was. About this time I had been wondering why after being in Pattaya for six straight weeks I still had the dynamic shits. Was it my eating Thai food at least twice a day I reasoned (And I like a lot of pepper laden fish sauce with mine) or was it because I was sometimes mixing falang breakfast with Thai food that unsettled my stomach? Or was it that I was brushing my teeth with tap water thinking just a small amount of contaminated water would screw me up?

Other things I started noticing is that in the last five years alone American women have become pronounceably more whalish. But many Thai women, even women in their thirties had nice tight stomachs and fine legs that put most American women even in their late teens to shame. Well. of course it's the fast food diet that have taken American women plumb out of the sex object category. On the other hand nearly every time I took a Thai woman to dinner or breakfast, she would choose Thai food over steaks, German food, the American breakfast or whatever, and nearly every one of them liked her Thai food hot.

So the question is, is it the peppers in the food favored by Thai babes that make them so delectably slender and enticing with the noodles and rice and the absence of fried food and sugar? Or is it the fact they shit a lot and that they shit so much and often that the fat never has a chance to build up? Or is it the sheer energy they must expend in the toilet that burns so many calories which keeps them so slender?

I still have not gotten to the bottom of all this, but one thing I did find out. I was in Pattaya between March 8 and May 8 for sixty days and I drank Heineken beer every night with the excepton of three nights I took off from all the drinking. Yet, when I got home I weighed 8 pounds less than when I started the trip. Admittedly I did a lot of walking in the heat, but that's a lot of dedicated beer drinking I did too. So it has to be in the Thai food. So what is it---caloric intake versus what one gets from American food, lack of deep fried food, lack of sugar in the food for the most part, or the toll exacted from shitting so often and much?

Denny,

As I've said before, If you have a problem with what I've written on this or any other thread there is a report function to be used. Use it; that's what it is there for.

As for Ollie, I'm sure won't mind being labelled a drunken murderer but he'd probably draw the line at being called a Brit.

If it's runs w/o fever or vomiting then this is probably the peppers inflaming your stomach (and maybe helped out by too much alcohol). If on the other hand you catch a bug from water or any unclean food you will have a MUCH more serious case of the shits, and will probably get some antibiotics real fast.

As far as the TG's being thin, this is just the flip side of the pathetic western diet. And you will catch many eating snacks and pizzas and crap now, so they are getting bigger.

hi all i just read the first post on here and had to post a little advice or at least my experiance i am staying for 2 months at the lek and am in the old wing not the greatest room in the world but have been happy in many that were worse I have a bath and a shower atachment and a room that is large enough to have a table and 2 chairs in it so all in all a very decent room that costs only 650 baht a night and I have a pool that is the biggest I have so far seen in pattaya so my advice is look around all there are better places,my plan for next year is to stay 3 months and i will be staying elsewhere than the lek as i have found there are places as good for much less money if you are prepared like me to stay a little way of the beach rd 2nd rd circuit and as I allways hire a motorbike for my whole stay then transport is not a problem and for those of us who are on a tight budget its the only way to go

ps the toilets at the lek are very clean and western

:D , well i cant really disagree with jack corbett , since we are friends and have been now for a long while, but let me remind all of you cruising the soi 7 and 8 bars , the piug and whistle also has a great toliet facility. me personally i have my favorite stops also, and if i feel that time coming on im sure heading to a western toliet , as i about 2 years ago got caught getting a massage and the erge hit, this was my 2nd trip to the LOS and I hadnt yet made this a priority, but after nearly falling up the stairs with massage oil all over me , I slid into the toilet to find , well lets say a floor model , with no running water , i figured what the hell , i had to go and sure hells hoped thats the hole i was to use. , so i did , and damn i think it took like 2 gallons of water, to wash everything down, as the thai dinner i had the night prior to this and the thai b-fast was literally kicking my ass, so after that i agree from that minute on i now have specific places that I can stop and go!!!!! , of course since my buddy has bought a condo there and we wont be in those hotels anymore, it looks like i might have to renegoiate my 'new" facilities!!!!! yours in mongerhood!!!!!!!!!! :grin-jump

I think the main reasons for getting the shits are:

- More fiber in thaifood than in falang food

- Chili speeds up your metabolism

- Hygiene of food in thailand is not the same as in western countrys

- Bacteria rate and differences

As exwannabe pointed out, you need your own toilet paper in most places.

I did run to this problem when i got the URGE to go in Mike's shopping mall. There was western toilets, nice, i went in to one booth, started dropping my pants and nearly let it go, as i did found out there is not paper. Well, big squeez on butt mucles zip up and go and try to find some paper, no where in sight at the toilet.

So i went out where my tilac of the moment was and popped the question about paper. She pointed me out a pay for paper machine, Yay!!, i will soon get releaf, guess again did the machine work :livid ...no broblems, she found the cleaning lady who had keys to that machine and as soon as she got it open, i gave her 50 bath and took loads of paper to go...finally...soon i was able to walk like a man, not like someone who was raped by an elephant as i did before.

When you gotta go, you gotta go, but sometimes you just GOTTA GO!! or buy new pants :D

No question about it---toilets, Thai food whether served in a restaurant or on the street, the role of hot peppers in the food, how often and how authoritatively the average Thai lady needs to shit, etc. have not been given their due.

Take for instance colon cancer? The little bit I've gleaned from the web is that Thais who eat Thai food have far less risk of colon cancer than Americans. Is this really true? And if it is, why? Is it because those who eat it typically defecate much more often and thoroughy? If this is true, then Americans should do likewise.

And what about the role that eating Thai food has on a person's weight? Could we as falang keep sustantually more trim and fit by eating more Thai food? And how about the babes? Many Thai ladies are very trim. And I'll bet it has a lot to do with the diet because it certainly isn't because Thai women like to walk a lot. So is this because Thai food has fewer calories or carbs than an American diet of mashed potatoes, bread, and sugar laden food has for example? And what about the role of extreme hot food that gets a person to literally work up a sweat while eating it? Does the hot food increase a guy or gal's metabolism to such an extent that huge gains are made as far as weight control because of this reason alone.

If much of the above is true then undoubtedly a big price is paid by constantly having the shits. Perhaps then someone can make huge profits by introducing special Thai t.v. dinners which could be marketed all over the world. One simply removes a plastic cover and microwaves or cooks by other means (even over an open fire for instance) most of the contents. Of huge importance is the seasoning which should be pepper laden so that the food is exceedingly hot. Included in the all self contained package would be a special wallet sized case filled with a small quantity of toilet paper. If we did this we could come up with an entire line of Thai food that we would call "Firebrand Shittoo." This name has huge additional advantages in that it could gain us instant access to the very hard to penetrate Japanese markets.

Of course at Phuket one gets extras with the room such as the big wave experience that Hawaiians can only dream about as they venture out on their puny little surfboards.

poking fun at a tragedy and catastrophic loss of human life?

I bought some fish sauce at an Asian food store over in St. Louis off of South Grand and a supply of hot peppers, the kind they use in Thailand, long skinny peppers that are red, green, and orange all mixed together. So guess what I found out? I found out that I could keep my bowels acting up here in the U.S. exactly the same way they do in Thailand.

OoO... a fellow St. Louisan. I haven't been to that Thai market. I've purchased Thai goods in the Kirkwood market, though.

It's probably just trouble adjusting to the foreign food... a lot of people get it, including me. Not to mention I'm VERY sensitive to most seafood, so even eating Thai food here that has any fish sauce or the like in it really tap dances on my bowels.

I stayed at Gulf Siam at the very north of the Beach Street, I was very happy with the cleanliness, professional staff, and had no girl trouble at all. Even on New Years the place was pretty serene.. I had a big bathroom with western toilet and bathtub with shower and a mini bar fridge. I think it's regularly 750 baht a night but during the holiday it was costing around 900 or so. It's probably the best hotel I've stayed at in Thailand for the value.

So you are a fellow St. Louisian? In St. Louis now?

I just rode my bicycle 35 miles yesterday in this hot muggy 92 degree St. Louis heat and it was a killer. I think I did this for several reasons....1. It was not getting any cooler and I needed the exercise and 2. I am checking the weather forecasts every day knowing my income will be directly related to how well the crops do on the farm. I am most concerned as so far we are having a drought. I've also been running up and down Monks Mound at Cahokia Mounds four times for exercise. That's four hundred vertical feet. Anyway, back then these early inhabitants here in the St. Louis area performed human sacrifices so I suppose this has rubbed off on me.

So I thought I would sacrifice myself by riding 35 miles in this insufferable heat and through sacrificing myself that perhaps it must might rain on the crops. I will admit doing a rain dance would have been much easier but I really can't dance a lick.

So how would you compare this kind of St. Louis weather to what you think Pattaya is experiencing right about now?

A few years ago when I was a frequent visitor to the Philippines one of the first to do things was find the cleanest shit houses, I found that San mig was an excellent laxative. Someone mentioned that hotel foyers are a good place for a dump, I found the same thing, next was bars some were awful some were quite good. Now at Pattaya it's hard to find a decent clean dunny with shit house paper so I carry a little plastic bag with a roll of paper in it. Hotel foyers are still one of the best IMHO.

When visiting the big malls it's also a good idea to find out were the facilities are. It is very embarrassing walking around with sloppy shit running down your legs plus the stench :o
