Thai Air Minibus Airport - Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Heard a whisper that the Thai Air Minibus which runs (ran?) three

times daily to Pattaya has been discontinued. At 300 Bt (if i remember

correctly) it was a good deal.

Can anyone confirm or deny please. Thanks

Bill

I believe that you are correct. The Thai Air Limo 300 baht Minibus to Pattaya is long gone. Apparently Thai Air Limo has re-incarnated itself however, under a new name, and at much steeper prices.

I had my worst ever driving experience in the old Thai limo service - my first trip to Pattaya around 1990 - the driver had a death wish - road was horrible in those days, potholed and slow lorries doing u-turns everywhere. Driver didn't slow down for anything - I was in the bus with some german guys - one of them took a swing at the driver when we arrived.

Stayed at the Royal Garden (now Marriott) I recall - the side building where the terrace rooms are now was the whole hotel.

I recently learnt how to get the Pattaya/Airport price for the Airport/ Pattaya ride.

I just got back from Chiang Mai and a little Munchikin like man started hustling me for a taxi, I decided to give it a try and he took me to his bona fide taxi in the domestic terminal car park, and drove me to a place about 3 kms away where he put me in a returning Pattaya taxi, He first asked for 1000bht, he pays tolls I said 900 bht he said deal , I am sure the tolls come to more than 100 bht so it is in fact slighty better than the Pattaya / airport deal which is 800 bht you pay tolls.

All the time he was completely up front with the pricing no nasty surprises, it went like clock work. Cab was not the greatest 2600 diesel Japanese sedan, old but maybe luck of the draw.

I think he works out of domestic because the International terminal is just too hot for his business.

I asked him OK what if I arrive at International what then, he gave me his mobile phone number which I will pass on if anyone wants to give it a try PM me, you could even phone him from UK/ Aus and sort it out, he does sound a bit like a Munchikin man but don't let this put you off, my experience was a good one.

The deal is 900bht he pays tolls!

Beside taxi and bus service from the airport, would that be advisable to go to the Northen bus terminal at Mochit and catch an aircon bus to Pattaya. If so, please advise :

1) Wehther it is more convenient and faster to take a taxi from the airport or a train (to avoid traffic jam) to the Northen bus terminal? I

2) How many hours trip from Mochit bus station to Pattaya bus station.? Does the bus pick up passengers along the way?

3) Are there aircon bus from the Mochit station? What is the bus fare ?

Would appreciate some advice.

Thanks

I don't think there is a train, metered taxi fare should be about 100 baht + another 50 baht if you use a taxi based at the airport. Get the air con/express bus to Pattaya, cost is about 100 baht and should take about 2 1/2 hours depending on traffic. They leave every 1/2 hour exceptlate at night/morning.

I do find it a little odd that people who spend £500+ on a flight and then after 15 hours or so in the air can even think about messing about with taxis to bus stations, waiting for a bus, taxi at the other end etc etc - when the cost of a taxi to Pattaya is an absolute bargain if you've got good negotiating skills (and there are often people in the taxi line going the same way who are happy to share). If you're staying to Bangkok first, then it's a different issue, but if you are going straight to Pattaya, then going via one of the city bus stations is too much hassle.

Only my view - YMMV. B)
