I had the opposite problem with Thai Airways. I wasn't going to Zurich but my luggage went there.

Zurich Airport is fairly compact, efficient and has an intercity train station in the basement which will enable you to connect with most major towns and cities.

Nothing special about Zurich itself unless you are in the banking business

I had a 5 hour stopover there once, arrived about 5-30 am with nothing at all open, when it did open there was 1 small cafeteria with ridiculous prices, 1 shop selling Toblerone, cuckoo clocks and Swiss army knives and 1 shop selling £5000 watches. The view of the mountains was spectacular. The only entertainment was to watch how close to those spectacular mountains the departing planes got. Never was I so glad to get out of an airport in my life. A few weeks later Swissair went bust, and I was very happy.
