When are you thinking of going?

If you are flexible and can wait till Feb thru to Oct 06 then AirAsia have free tickets at the moment (think you need to book this week).

Ive got some for March and then September.........basically for visa runs. They were 1525 baht (although the fare is free there is tax.ins etc) thats return BKK-SIN-BKK.

You/ll have to be quick though.

Decent cheapish hotel (2700 baht/night) inc breakfast and handy for Orchard road would be CityBayview in Bencoolen st.................or if you can afford it the Marriott 6700 baht/night.

I have done the sin Bkk route many times. For starters if you are departing from US and have not bought a ticket yet consider flying singapore air. They will give you a free stopover on either the outbound or inbound trip.

On a previous trip the flights on UA to sin were about $300 les than the SFO-BKK route. So I flew to sin roundtrip. Flew valuejet asia roundtrip. Also tiger air and asia air fly the route. My cost was about 5000 baht. Tricky part aboutthe cheaper fares. When you get around to booking them you will find that the fees and taxes are higher than on the higher fares. i.e 8oo baht fare will have 1100 baht in fees and taxes making it 1900 baht each way. 1900 baht fare will have 500 baht in fees and taxes makinh iy 2400 baht each way. The higher fares sometimes have fewer restrictions. It is a good idea to go 90% ofthe way thru the ticketing process on the website to see what the final cost will be before making plans. There are a ton of flights between sin and bk including swi air that sometime has business class seats for 6000 baht each way,

Added tidbit about US to BKK via SIN. I've done this twice now, once on SQ and once on NWA. Both flights arrive at SIN at 12 midnight local. There are BMs who quote different schedules that arrive in the daytime, but this is what I've experienced twice.

Heads up. If you're doing this, and taking an Asian LCC north to BKK from SIN, use the Transit Hotel at Changi Airport. It is excellent. After 20 hrs in the air, you can get a shower and about 5 hrs sleep before getting up for your LCC flight north.

$35 US. Great deal.

I've just bought my return ticket online from Air Asia for the 1st March got it for 2,524 Bt all inclusive. The website Air Asia is very slow at the moment they have a lot of traffic due to a free ticket offer. You can get through to the home page OK but once you have entered your dates and pressed "Search" it times out. Took me a week trying 2 or 3 times a day before I got through. I even got one leg free not as good as it sounds the main cost is taxes and surcharges but it is still a bargain.

For best fares apply at least 2 months in advance.

steve,

make sure you bring a copy of your ticket (printout). I showed for air asia without it and it took them like 45 minutes to give me the boarding pass. They couldn't find my ticket by my name. They had to have me go to a differeant counter where they looked up a number on that computer. Then sent me back to check in with the number so they could look up the ticket. Made sure I had a copy for the return. :D :banghead
