Today, Saturday, most (if not all) bars will be closed from 6pm. Sunday some might dare to open, I decided against taking this chance, so Lennie's as well as Happy Bar Dao will be closed for 2 nights.

There's the next election scheduled for April 19th, so very likely the same will happen in two weeks time .....

And as this general election tomorrrow is unlikely to produce a valid result, the next elections will be very soon ......

Well, this is Thailand after all, in case we would like to stay in a land with more rationale we would rather go elsewhere ..... but we just love it here because of that!

Every bar and gogo owner I have talked to has said they will close on 1 April at 6pm, but many will be opening "late" on 2 April (since the election is finished at 3pm on 2 April anyway). If you go out at 9pm on 2 April, you should be okay.

Yeah, I picked a losy day to end my trip. As already mentioned, pretty much every bar closed Saturday after 6 (fortunately, I bf'd early and didn't notice). Sunday was a shock though when everyone was pretty much still closed around noon. Some of the bars started opening up later in the afternoon; but they weren't (openly) serving beer or alcohol, and the few I stopped in to weren't running bins - you'd payed when you got your drink - nothing on paper.

Well, my bar was open both nights and needless too say...cleaned the bar of ale...good nights had

I am led to believe that the bars will not have to close on the 19th due to Songkran.

Either way my bar will be open

Saturday night was a bit of a disaster. At 6PM the bars that where open shut up shop. Valley Boy and I went down to walking Street and it was dead. We found Doll House Agogo open but they were only serving soft drinks. We didn't stay long as it was as boring as fuck. We found a couple of bars open in the Soi 2 and 3 area but it was fairly dead. I ended up getting on the phone and had a TG meet me at my hotel for an early night.

On Sunday a lot of bars opened at 6PM with quite a few of them were serving alcohol in coffee mugs. The lights and music was in the after 1AM mode until midnight when all was back to normal. I would expect the next election to be the same.

We shut on the 19th out of choice.

Plenty of other places in Pattaya to sneak a drink (soi Happy has always been good as they have time to spot BIB approaching into the cul-de-sac) but this sounds like England where, as I understand it, pubs are allowed to open Christmas evening but the publican has to have a 'Christmas'. Not the ultimate in customer service! :P

Its commen sense as the staff all go and celebrate Songkran and get pissed, better to close than have drunk staff then open the bar with no water and wet customers everywhere.
