Couple of newbie questions

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, my name's logan and I'm greatly considering a trip to Thailand..

I'm currently serving in Iraq and I have two weeks of leave coming up... I've heard from some people that Thailand is a great place to have fun and party a bit. Luckily I stumbled across this page and now am greatly considering spending more of my time in Pattaya than Bangkok. One thing is that I've always traveled with a group of friends.. is there a lot of things enjoyable to do traveling solo? Also, when I've traveled to Eastern Europe many of the locals didn't like American Soldiers and so it was something we always kept secret. Is that the same in Asia? I know I want to spend some time in Bangkok and Pattaya, but is there anywhere else I should visit in my two weeks? Appreciate all the info.. love the site and reading the posts..

Logan

Logan,

Come for the time of your life - solo you will not be for long, unless that is the way you want it to be. You will find it easy to meet and make friends of both the male :chogdee2 and female variety :bj2 . American absolutely no problem. :bj2

If you get bored of Pattaya (hard to imagine after being in Iraq) you can visit any of the numerous travel agents in town and arrange a trip the same day if you wish for northern Thailand (mountainous beauty) or Western Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang - all great for scuba and beaches).

It is beautiful, friendly, realtively cheap and not to be missed. :3some

Hi logan

You have already got a couple of good posts in reply.

I would just like to confirm that( at least in my experience) travelling solo is not a problem at all. Easy enough to find other guys to chat with ,enjoy a beer or two.

Most people in Pattaya are friendly enough. Pleasant female company there in abundance :allright :chogdee2

I`m sure you`ll have a great time and working where you do,think you really deserve it!

All the Best! :chogdee2

Thanks for the replies and info guys.. really looking forward to my trip =]

Sadly it looks like I won't have leave until October now... Ugh I'm ready to go now. I was wondering if it ever cools down? It's hot as hell here now and so now I'm thinking I'd want to vacation when its not the exact same temperature.. basically would it be better to go in October or December? Those looks like the times I'm most likely to have some time off.

I need to stop reading these boards before I go AWOL :clap1

  • 2 weeks later...
Eastern Europe many of the locals didn't like American Soldiers and so it was something we always kept secret.

Thai's are used to American Military, they'll welcome you. And most Western Europeans (who virtually run Pattaya) are on your side, you being the guys on the ground, in the front line.

Comming to Pattaya solo is no problem, I have made alot of good friends there and every time I come again, I find that I am always catching up with People.

If you have only two weeks then it might not be adviseable to do too much traveling. Pattaya and Bangkok ought to keep you busy for 2 weeks. I have never encountered any anti-american bias in Thailand, and I doubt if you will either, unless you do something stupid. As others have said, treat the locals with respect and they will respect you.

Assuming that you have chosen Thailand because of the availability of cheap, guilt-free sex, then going solo ought not to be a problem.

While you're in bangkok, if you have time to kill and are looking for something to do, visiting the many Buddhist temples is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

As for weather, I have found that there are 2 seasons: wet and dry. It will be hot no matter when you go. I was there in late November, which coincided with the start of the dry season, but it was still hot and humid.
