Cathy Pacific Deal of the Month

Recommended Posts

Looks like a good deal. Total comes to $755.00 roundtrip.

I have also found EVA has flights for about $760.00 roundtrip in economy and $950.00 total for Evergreen Deluxe.

Right now I am leaning towards the extra $200 to fly Evergreen Deluxe.

Will have to read up on the reviews some more about Evergreen Deluxe and decide if it is worth it.

Thanks for the info.

That will definitely blow any budget!

Nope, I take the ferry from the airport straight to SheKou ($13, and 30 mins.).

400RMB ($50US) looooooong time.

Happy hour beers, $1.25, regular price $2.50

Decent Hotel ~ $30-60

Food - cheap

Massages - cheap

I will be staying with a friend so it will actually be cheaper than Patts.

Bonus - passport will not have HK stamp, they return taxes charged on your ticket (180HKD [$25] I think is the amount).

I am not sure I understood that. What is wrong with a stamp from HK on passport, for instance?

SheKou is an area within the city of ShenZhen, China (pop.6mil.). It is a fairly busy seaport that has a large expat community due to the shipping biz, the oil biz, and many high tech companies in the area. There is an alleyway off of TaiZi Lou that has a few dozen beer bars. This place is loaded with poonie. There are also many factory girls that hang around... There are many nice hotels and a tourist area with shops and restaurants to fit every taste.

The HKG stamp: The ferry goes directly from the airport to SheKou and you never go through HK customs/immigration; hence, never get the stamp. You only get the Chinese stamps on your passport. HK has some tax which is returned to you if you never enter HK officially (stamp).

I lived there, SheKou, for 3 yrs so ask away.

Thanks, picoman.

I just found this link to SheKou. Album one has a map of the ferry routes.

Mid

Those pics are pretty old, the place has seen much change since they were taken...

Doesn't look like China does it ?

If you're ever in the neighborhood drop in to Mustang Sally's Bar to the left of these stairs..

By the way, there is a good Thai restaurant with a view above Starbuck's in the pic.

Picoman,

I believe there is an expensive China visa that you must obtain before you are even allowed to set foot in China-- for all US passports, but dont know about citizens from other countries. Wouldn't that even be more than what the HK govt will refund you for not being stamped :D

You can get a 5 day China visa upon landing in SheKou Port, costs 100HKD ($12.50US). IMPORTANT: The SheKou visa window closes at 1800 (1730 Chinese time

There are other visas you can get at any Chinese Consulate before departure. If memory serves me right, a 30 day single entry is $40US.

You will need 2 passport photos for the visa, although they only take 1 of them :puke Chinese logic.

Don't let the stamp thing throw you off, man. It is irrelevant...

CSM, Picoman and Braveheart thanks for the welcome to the forum.

I'll be in Pattaya November 27th leaving on December 2nd after spending 3 nights in BKK. I'm still looking for the "right" Hotel in Pattaya. Sounds like the Areca is the way to go but I need Internet access in the room not just the Lobby. Any thoughts? Ishtar2

I received an e-mail from Cathay Pacific about this flight! :D But now I've got to see if I can make time to go during that time spand! :chogdee2

Let's see! Went to Thailand (Bangkok and Pattaya), Hong Kong, Macau and China for a month this past Feb and Mar. Then went to Rio de Janeiro in May for about 10 days. Hell! I got to see if my budget can take it! :chogdee2

  • 2 weeks later...

Picoman can you inbox me some information of what area to stay in Shekou.

I will be flying via Cathay and the thought of seeing some good looking chinese women seems interesting enough to go.

I have checked out your websites and a close friend cautioned me about Shenshen being a bit more crime than Hong Kong, so thats where my question stems from.

There is supposed to be a good sized mall in Shenzhen, any recommendations to a hotel near this mall area or the area your recommend with bars?

Thanks in advance.
