New airline caters to smokers

Recommended Posts

BERLIN -- Are you ready to fly the smoky skies?

Here's an airline where you won't have to worry about tampering with the lavatory smoke detector. Because not only are you free to light up -- you can even puff away on a Cuban cigar.

A German businessman with a pack-and-a-half-a-day habit is behind Smoker's International Airways. He hopes to start flying in March between Dusseldorf, Germany, and Tokyo, using a trio of 747s. Not one will have a no-smoking section.

Along with creating a smoker's haven, the plan is to also bring back the golden age of air travel. To that end, flight attendants in designer uniforms will be serving up caviar. But in a nod to the modern age, there will also be TVs, phones and Internet access.

But non-smokers should not worry, according to the company. On its Web site the founder said the airline will have an air filtration system that would provide fresher air than on other non-smoking planes.

"Non-smokers will find the cabin air more refreshing than on any other flight with any other airline, as SMINTAIR adds fresh outside air to the conditioning system! This is more expensive, as it burns more fuel, but it is seen as an additional service to our guests," the site said.

:clueless :beer :chogdee :wtf

This is the type of idiotic dimwit statement one comes to expect from a selfish smoker...... :clap2

I doubt if I will ever find someone's Galloise odour refreshing!

not sure why its a dimwit statement, people who fly it will i assume be ok with other peoples smoke and by giving fresher air will make the flight more comfortable.

looking at the website

http://smintair.com/

SMINTAIR will bring back the joy of flying by offering only 30 first class and 108 business class seats

it looks high class/ high price for people who are willing to pay that sort of price for the chance to do what they wish :rotflmao

Being an ex-smoker I sympathize with the plight of smokers. The amount of thought process that goes into just making sure you don't get caught out without cigarettes or flame is staggering.

There will not be a non-smoking section, hence a non-smoker could be sat next to a chain smoking moron.

How on earth does that make the air fresher for him/her ? The damned plane will be full of people smoking their heads off, they going to give out gas masks or diving helmets piped to this 'more refreshing air'.....?

There might be people ok with other peoples smoke , but a 747, with 399 people smoking their heads off, a few cigars and pipes, maybe some dope.....you think the air will be more refreshing by upping the fresh air percentage a few points? The cabin will stink permanently too.

That is why I feel it is a dimwit statement....

I recall how planes used to smell on boarding, when smoking was allowed at the back.

Interseting BBC article from June this year has some info on layout. They are talking about having only 138 seats on board. No ecomony. Up stairs will be a full lounge set up. They still gotta find the money to set up.

And having so few seats on such a large aircraft they better be hauling a bucket load of cargo or its gonna be very expensive.

sorry, i thought you understood the point of this and had read the website.

the airline is planning only 138 seats on this plane, therefore the price will be high for people who WISH to smoke on board and with that high price and the major advertising of the smoking on board facts, it would be sensible to assume that a person with a major phobia about being sat next to a "chain smoking moron" on a long flight would be bright enough not to book a ticket on that airline

IF we assume that this is to be the only airline that allows smoking on board a scheduled flight for paying passengers then i personally believe that non smokers have sufficient choice of other airlines who dont allow

smoking and this one should be left alone to see if it can make it.

whether it will launch or not is another matter.

You can bet your bottom dollar that there'll be a load of vacuous non-smoking windbags queuing to get on board just so they can whine about it. :beer

I've never smoked but I think this is an EXCELLENT idea--Another illustration of the 'free market' at work.

If you don't want to be smokers then don't fly them--enough said.

The MARKET will ultimately judge if the demand's there.

I think this is a great idea and hope it is a success. (At first I thought this was a Big D wind up but I googled it and it's true !)

The only concern, I would suggest is that they are targetting too small a niche market to be viable. If it was a smokers only airline and they crammed the plane with seats. Like most carriers. Then they would be appealing to ALL smokers. At least in central Europe/ Germany. If they are only having business and first class seats with a lounge then they are only targetting - affluent smokers. A niche market within a niche market. Good luck to them.

Seems to me that the only "dimwitted morons" that would be flying on this airline, with its well publicised terms an conditions, would be "brain dead" comitted non-smokers and shit stirrers ! :D There is no way I would even consider it !

I totally concur with the sentiments of galt67 in particular, and the "ever erudite <grin " Monkeyman.

I miss the day's when we had smoking sections in planes, that way all the screaming kids sat with their parents far away in the front, now they are evenly spread around my damm ear drums every time i fly

The only thing worse than a born again christian is a reformed smoker. Some of the last smoking section flights NEVER had any seats available in the small smoking section. I spent more time standing because of people borrowing my seat so they could have a smoke. Regular smoking flights would do well.

YES, before anyone preaches to me, I know it is no good for me, BUT, I would be REALLY pissed off if I died from nothing. :allright

In the early 80's I had the pinnacle of customer service from Cathay Pacific, I'd booked them singapore-bkk but because they had no smoking seats left they offered to switch me to a Singapore Airlines flight! I took it.

Well thanks for explaining.....I stopped reading the site when I came across this statement.....

I'd like to take the opportunity to clear one of the biggest lies floating around everywhere in the World:

"Second Hand Smoke (SHS, a.k.a. ETS, Environmental Tobacco Smoke) damages your health".

and this was amusing too...

the NAZIs also sported a huge Anti-Smoking campaign? Yes, they did and the one we experience now, frightningly, carries exactly the same insignia.

Really, one must question whether smoking also affects ones mental abilities too. Perhaps raised levels of carbon monoxide causing oxygen deficiency in the brain :cry2
