Flights Bkk to Koh Samui

Recommended Posts

I'm spending a few days with a pal on the small island of Koh Tao, prior to heading for Pattaya (Koh Tao is in the Koh Samui group of islands).

I want to go there as soon as possible after arriving from the UK at the new Bangkok Airport. The best way appears to be to fly to Samui with BangkokAir and then take the catamaran ferry to Tao.

I dont want to purchase a ticket online as I'm not convinced I want to make the journey the day I arrive, due to tiredness.

My question "Is it possible to buy a ticket at the airport on the day of the flight" ?

The website does not give me the answer - anyone have any experience of this ?.

I have not purchased a ticket at the new airport, however, I can't see why you won't be able to, subject to availability of course. Like any airline, the flight could be half empty or it could take you a day to get a flight. Also, if you wait till you get to the airport to decide you might not get the earliest flight and/or you might have a bit of trouble finding a hotel room. Sailfast

I have not purchased from Bangkokair at the new airport before. But my experiences, yes you can buy them at the airport directly. Also you can book in advance online if you have some idea when you are going, such as a day or two after you arrive.

It's only a bit over an hour flight from BKK to Koh Samui. I flew from US to BKK and then directly to KS on my first trip to Thailand, wanting to go to Kao Tao, just as you do. It was a few hours until the flight BKK to KS, so the added time of the trip really isn't all that much. I would just do it all at once and not lose a night just to sleep in BKK, then have to go to the airport etc. Plus I doubt a night stay in BKK would be all that "restful"!!

Consider the 1st and last flight of the day with Bangkok air are promo cheapies, so if you can suffer waiting til 6am in the morning or 10pm at night (approx) for these flights makes a big difference in cost, compared with having to dive into Bangkok for a day or so just to get over the tiredness, I waited all night for the early flight, but so nackered it eased the pain. This was in the old airport. I think the promo is internet only, personally , as I did , I would book the cheapie on internet and grit teeth for wait.

If you plan to visit Pattaya anyway you can fly to Samui form the fairly local U-Tapao airport (500bht to get there) and it is cheaper than the Bangkok flights.

Yes you can but my worry would be availability, depends on the time of year though. I went to koh samui in January and only booked a single returning when i had enough, then had to wait 3 days to get off the island

I had a very good experience using the train and boat. It was about 600 baht but we seen some sites and met lots of travelers. Its funny going in a train at 80 miles an hour and the doors are open so people stand next to it and smoke and its completely dark outside, you cant help but think about pushing someone out, nobody would ever know it was you... :banana

Hi,

When I have used the service in the past I am sure they advertised you could book online/airport up to 2 hours before the flight, subject to availability of course. I think it is cheaper to book it online and you get a e-ticket which means they send an email and you print it out as proof of booking. If you are travelling with lady make sure you have her name as appears on ID as you have to give details of passengers travelling. Enjoy the trip. :clueless

I found it much better to book online from uk airport (lhr) to koh samui (usm) via Bangkok (bkk).

This way i didn't have to clear immigration at Bangkok which can sometimes take an hour or more,

instead i cleared at Koh Samui 2 mins. Iwaved goodbye to my luggage at heathrow and collected it at Samui.

No stress and no hauling luggage around bkk. :D
