Chiang Mai and Phuket

Any suggestions for a newbie during what looks like prime time in Phuket, January 8 -15. Looking for a nice hotel possibly in Kata or Karong. I will also be in Chiang Mai 1/1 - 1/8, possibly staying ay the Porn Ping.

Just a remark, you're late, the first days in january are often fully-booked already in more popular hotels, many guests staying over X-mas and NE are booking for the same period "next" year before leaving.

Dont know of any places to stay at those beaches. But if you want to go to Patong the best place to stay is Sunset Apartments.

Hi

I just returned from 2 FUN filled weeks in Phuket area.

 

I liked the Karon/Kata beach area best. Just quiet enough, with

very inexpensive friends compared to the Patong zoo.

 

Try the "My Friends House" and "Best house" they are two

new guest houses just 3-4 blocks back off the beach, in S. Karon.

Nice clean rooms ~ 800 baht/night. Not sure if available

over the internet though.

 

There were also lots of small rooms available for walk in.

In early Dec there were plenty of vacancies, not sure about Jan.

 

Also, LateStays.com, offers last minute (< 14 days) reservations in SE Asia.

- I think - a first class e-book site, used it several times while I was there and

got some excellent deals just a few days ahead.

Like a poolside room at the 5* Sugar Palm Kata for 2K baht/night !

 

Also, if you book a motorbike ( 150-250 B / day) you can spin around and

easily find a good deal just off the tourist walking distance.

CM Porn Ping, Raming Lodge, Central Dungwatan, Empress and where I stayed Thapae Place Hotel (850) are all GF and OK
