Non immigrant 'O' visa info required

Recommended Posts

I am currently looking to relocate to LOS and I am having difficulty in understanding the finer points of the Non immigrant 'O' visa system.

I have been to LOS several times this year and have decided to base myself there next year, but still plan to work overseason a rotational basis. Until the new visa rules came in in October this would not have been a problem, however due to the uncertainty of how the new rule are interpreted I though of applying for a visa rather than just arriving each trip and recieving the standard 30 day permit.

I have searched many sites for info and there still seems to be some confusion on whether or not the above entry method will be judged on the number of entries over a 180 day period or on the actual number of days in the same period.

I have also researched the Non immigrant 'O' visa ( 1 year multiple entry) and was wondering what the exact pre-requisites are for obtaining one. I know that you can apply for one if you have a Thai partner or if you are over 50 but being neither myself does this rule me out?

Finally are there any other options open to me that I have not already covered?

Your help on this matter would be gratefully appreciated and could even result in a beer or 2.

:clap1

Go to the Thai Consulate website - make sure you get the HULL consulate not the London embassy. Dowload the form for the non imm O and just send it by post. They are still giving Non Imm Os for any reason whereas the London embassy requires proof of Thai Spouse etc.

It will cost you (I think) 90 pounds and will be back with youin about 3 or 4 days.

If you time your rentrys it will be valid for 15 months not 12.

At the end of that time you will not be able to renew it in Thailand unless you have the Thai Spouse or are over 50 but at least you will get enough time here to see if you really like it.

The confusion has been caused by Thai Immigration themselves, who have said several different and conflicting things about this. The latest word is that it will be counted by actual days spent in Thailand. So, you will be allowed 90 days out of 180 regardless of how many times you enter.

The problem here is that the new rule will not start to be enforced until January 2007, 90 days after it was introduced. Until we see how they deal with this in practice it is hard to say what exactly is going to happen.

As whitespider says, a multi entry non-img o from Hull is a good option for you.
