Hi. I will be in town in Jan. 07 for the first time and wonder if is a good idea to rent a car at the Banckok airport and have the car for driving around town for the 4 weeks I will be there. Is gas expensive? Will my USA insurance be good in LOS. Thank you for your information, Mikee

Don't bother, man. Your insurance won't cover you and gas is about the same, but:

 

- Driving on the left may screw with your brain

- Pattaya is pretty small, almost everything you could ever want is within walking distance

- Narrow streets with too many buses, motorbikes, & drunk pedestrians

- No place to park

- 25 cents to get on a baht bus and there's one every .5 seconds

- Etc.

All great ideas! if you are dead set on getting your own wheels I would suggest a motorbike. You can get them on the cheap and they are a hell of a lot more fun than a car :D

They ARE more fun - unfortunately also a hell of a lot more dangerous (to the driver) than a car :clap2

This is true...but to quote my friend the 1st time I decided I wanted to drive in Kuwait....drive it like you stole it..everybody else does :kissing

Thanks for all your great ideas. Sounds like I will just take a taxi and use the bhat bus. Also do some walking around.

 

The best way for sure. Experience the traffic at least once then decide!! Walk or Baht bus for me everytime!!
