just recieved a request from the metropole for a 10,000 baht deposite on a 36,000 baht studio room for the month to be refunded on check- out, is this a normal request as i find the sum a bit high for a deposite. also if this is the norm has any b/m had trouble getting a refund at the end of thier stay. i believe the metropole is girl friendly but ive also heard the guest have been asked for 500baht when they brought someone back.

can anyone who's stayed their please clarify this.

I've paid high deposits on long stays there and have never had a problem getting the money back. It is important to tell them what time you're checking out. Your deposits a little high and they have to make sure they have enough cash on hand when you check out.

If thais rent an apartment or a house for 12 months they often pay a deposit of 3 months' rent or 25 %, so if they just stay 12 months they don't pay the rent the last 3 months.

In your case 25 % is 9,000 and they ask for 10,000 so it seems OK. At the end you'll pay 26,000.

I paid a 1 month deposit on a long stay (6 month) contract. I haven't left after a year and a half, but I assume the money is still on account (i.e., I don't pay for the last month).

I've payed deposit in many places, it's the norm if you want to stay for a month or longer, and I always got it back when I checked out minus the water and electric bill or anything broken or drinks taken from the minibar!

Great place and understanding staff.

I paid 10k deposit, but once I arrived they asked for the full months rental upfront.

I found I could only withdraw 12k out of a cashpoint ..... bad news was I was pretty much spending this everyday!

I asked if I could pay the 48k over the next week or so, but they went one better and said I could pay half in two weeks and the rest at the end.

Absolutely, no complaints about the place or service.

Well, just the one ......... I had to check out because they had no rooms left, I wish I'd booked earlier and for longer :gulp

you whined about losing the interest on 10000 baht in a 1-month period... at a 5% annual rate (which is more than you're going to get for 10000 baht in 1 month), that works out to less than 42 baht for 1 month.

i didn't expect you to understand, given that you were complaining about it in the first place.

I just booked the Metropole suite (the penthouse) for 1 week at 63,000 baht and I also had to pay 10,000 baht deposit. I emailed them my credit card and immediately was given a reservation number. So far the service has been spot on!

I just returned from the LK Metropole and had my deposit credited towards my bill upon checking out. No hassles and the front desk personnel were great.

No problems or additional charges for bringing in 1 or 2 girls at a time, only smiles from the front desk. IDs were only taken when the girls went directly to the desk otherwise the girls were not asked.

I would expect that they ask this because there is no credit card guarantee. Therefore, I would expect to pay 10,000 deposit and then 36,000. The 10,000 being offsetable when I leave against room service, electric, water etc. If you can give a credit card guarantee, then they should require no deposit but will probably take authorisation for around Bt46,000.
