Non-smoking hotels: Inn House vs. Areca vs. ...other?

Recommended Posts

So, I've read a lot of discussions here... trying to decide between the two assuming they both have rooms available. Also open to any other ideas for non-smoking places, but given all the smoking at the bars I really need a bit of clean air to retreat to. Would rather go with an all-non-smoking place since most places that have some smoking and some non-smoking like the Dynasty (my usual) can't guarantee the non-smoking room in advance... not to mention places like the Lek or LK Metropole with no permanently non-smoking rooms

Inn House : slightly cheaper at 1100 for the Deluxe room, convenient on Soi 13, no pool, no joiner fee for one guest, but if I bring two, small joiner fee.

Areca : still cheap at 1350 for the Deluxe room, bit of a longer walk which isn't great but not too bad either (did one night at the LK Metropole across the street last trip), pool. Are they cool with multiple joiners? Not that it's especially likely, but one never knows :)

Any other options? Anyone's opinion on the tradeoffs?

The Areca dont like you to have more than one girl, I was there in September and witnessed a discussion between a BM and the management about it, they made it clear that they are against having twosomes or more, otherwise, I like the place and will almost certainly stay there again in April.

The Inn house hotel DOES HAVE a pool, but it is a small one.

The reason i don't stay in this hotel is because of noise pollution (very thin walls and doors)

Bella Villa Prima Soi 4 rooms are non smoking. Outside verandah for smokers. Small pool. 1500 baht per night. Never had 2 friends overnight myself so unable to help on this aspect.

Obliged, guys! No finaly decision - will look into a couple of the others mentioned though I'm leaning towards Inn House - small pool is fine and sounds like Areca will possibly be worse if I do bring back 2 :) (Will have to find that members bar thread)

Has anyone stayed at both who can compare the beds?

Inn House beds were (2 years back) awful. (Small, hard etc). Areca beds are fine, but other issues with the place would make me avoid it.

Other than the non-smoking policy what would you say are the reasons to avoid it?

IMO only.

Adversity to more than 1 Girl; Rooms too small , Beds smallish, Attitude of Farang couples frequenting the place, and current lassez-faire from staff due to popularityand fully booked status (hearsay yesterday from current residents).

The non-smoking IMHO is a good thing !

For the areas you are talking about I personally would go 1) Sandy Spring, 2) Lek (new wing), 3 Dysentry "sic" :D Although I am not sure on smoking policies for latter two.

Lek as of when I stayed there in 2004 (or 2005? can't remember now) claimed they had no non-smoking rooms at all at the hotel. Room stank of smoke from aircon which got worse over the two days I was there rather than better, by far the worst room in that respect that I have had in Pattaya. Others here have said since then that they have some non-smoking rooms.

Dynasty Inn has been my usual staying place but was told on my most recent attempt to book that they could not guarantee non-smoking room (they have in the past, but was always for low season not February tail end of high season) and I would have to see what they had when I got there.

  • 4 weeks later...

I will take the Areca above dynasty any time

The only thing the areca insist on is the girls

leave there ID cards.

It also seems you can only have one lady at a time.

What I want to know is can you take two girls back

aslong as you pay for one or is it strictly one

lady in the room at a time?
