More(!) direct flights, US-BKK

The following link, from Thai Airways web site, contradicts what the BKK Post quoted the President of Thai Airways saying:

If you check arrival times it looks like that TG 795 and TG 791 are not direct - probably vis Narita, but later those flights will go via chinese airports. I've heard from friends in the US who are entusiastic to have the chance to stay a few nights in China on each flight to LOS.

There is a difference between a direct and non stop flight. You can have a direct flight with a stop if the flight number doesn't change.

No elef on direct flights when the plane stops some people get off some people get on but unless it's your final destination you stay on. Sometimes you will be allowed off if you take your boarding pass with you.

The Thai flights out of New York are all non-stop. I assume the ones out of LA are as well. They use the Airbus 340-500 and it can go the distance.

I've been on some where you could either stay on or get off. I've also been on some where you had to get off.

I've been on connecting flights where we were required to get off the plane, walk through the transit area and right back to the same plane. Sometime later an airline pilot told me that regardless of whatever reason they give you, the real purpose is to force you to walk through the Duty Free shopping area. This agreement between the airline and the airport lowers the gates fees, landing fees, etc., charged to the airline.

quite often you're forced off.

 

and sometimes they'll even change planes with the same flight number.

 

"direct" flight is simply a marketing mechanism. doesn't mean you'll be flying nonstop, and doesn't even mean you won't be switching planes when you make the stop.

They are. 17.5 hours from JFK to BKK. Helluva flight
