Thai Airways Nonstop from JFK questions.

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

I've posted this question on other boards of importance.

I’ve been researching non-stop flights from Boston, Massachusetts USA to Bangkok, Thailand. Sadly, there’s no such beast. However, I found one and only one at JFK New York, New York USA. It’s Thai Airways. I can’t believe there’s only one airline that goes non-stop but there it is. I could be wrong however. If you blokes differ in opinion, lay it on me brother. I really could not find anything else.

Thai Airways looks like a great airline to fly and I’m looking forward to it. Thai Airways only has the A340-500 (Airbus) going to Bangkok non-stop from JFK. I can either get Business class (they call it Royal Silk), Premium Economy class or Economy class. Royal Silk goes for about 5K USD while economy goes for around 1K USD (I got both prices from thier web site). Again, if you blokes know of another way of getting a better price, give it up for the Kaiju.

What I like to do before I spend lots of dosh on a flight ticket is to get a better understanding of the flight environment. So far I found a few valuable Youtube flicks.

This one gives me an idea of the A340-500.

This is just plain sick!

If you guys have any more information on the right airline to pick, better Youtube flicks and other important info like what airline has the all important luxury cubicles, post your info. Thanks.

I believe it is the only non-stop from New York at the moment. It may not last much longer as Thai is threatening to add a stop somewhere.

I have flown it twice and it is worth every penny no matter what class you're in. It's a 17 hour flight but seats are good and food is decent and entertainment is great.

Gets you into BKK at 1600 the next day which is much earlier than most flight from the US.

I will fly it every chance I get. I hope it stays non-stop.

I have used Thai airways direct flight from JFK and EVA out of Newark. The Thai flight is a better option. EVA has two stops, one in Seattle and than a layover in Taiwan making the total trip about 21 hrs.

Plus the scheduling on Thai is better as a believe they have a flight that leaves everyday.

I have heard the economy plus is not worth the extra money unless you get the $200 upgrade offer when you check in.

Kaiju:

The Thai Air flight is the only non-stop to Bangkokfrom the east coast. Some of my family flew from Boston for my wedding last year and were very impressed by the flight. We put my mom (sprightly 74) on the Thai economy plus and she really liked it - it certainly blows any US carriers out of the water for service/etc. They really hooked her up flying back from Chiang Rai - she was beat after all the golf, river boats and elephant rides and they met her with a wheel chair on the connections and ensured all the baggage/etc.

Some like to connect and break up the flight, but I would much rather take a str8 shot unless I am on a business fare.

By the way,we used Jet Blue for the connecting flights from boston - very cheap and the flight times matched up well.

Try this site for Thai fares, may be able to save a few bucks:

Good advice so far...

I have used the flight several times as well... Sometimes the best price is on the Thaiair.com website. Expedia is also cheap, but I never tried the link listed above (I will though:)

It's a great flight.

If you get a silly price like 5K for economy just change the dates a day or two either way and that will generaly get you down to arounk 1K+. I have paid as little as 900 but I think those days are over. United/ANA has a nice one stop from JFK to Tokyo to BKK as well.

With the huge Viet/Lao/Chin/Thai/Cambo etc population in and around the Boston area you would think you could get a decent flight out, but you can't :thumbup
