WestEast Travel, For UK Mongers.....

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Please, those that have used them, could I have your honest and recent thoughts on Westeast Travel.

The reason I'm asking is that I recently booked a trip with them and became pissed of and sorry I choose them.

To cut along story short I enquired as to price from Belfast to BKK via LHR with Thai. I was told £653. I said this was too much as cost from LHR was £473 so this entailed £180ish from Belfast to LHR Rtn. I usually pay around £120 for this in order to get the "through" ticket for baggage purposes. I was then told by them that they could do the Belfast - LHR leg for £130. Agreed cost £607 each. I agreed and paid for 4 x tickets after he double checked all details and confirmed. Then 20 minutes later, when I 'm driving, I receive a phone call from Westeast Travel to say he forgot to include airport tax to Belfast and i had to pay £45 each in addittion!!!! This brought the cost close to the original price which he had already agreed was too much!!!

I was left in a position where I was driving along a motorway trying to reason with a guy who's English was little better than my none existant Urdu!!! Why have someone answering the phone that requires words like: Road, Street, David , John phoneticly spelt to them?? he was not simply being sure, he had not got a clue.

I pointed out that this was his mistake, not mine and I had paid the price asked and he had already told me that my flights are booked and confirmed. Email confirmation to follow. This then changed to I could cancel if I wished and have refund. Extra Must be paid.

I don't think this is acceptable! I am now thinking are they operating some ploy to get you to book then as in my case then hit you with additional costs that had you known about would have made you look elsewhere. So they seem cheap to get you hooked like they did me??

Your thoughts please.

Regards,

I don't think that there is anything sinister in it, it's just how it is nowadays when you book flights etc.

I have just booked with westeast and it went reasonble but not great, same same Ours travel.

If someone has a direct line number for one of the English bosses that would help BMs. :D

I usually book seperate tickets and check my luggage all the way through anyway. £180 ??

How can you still do that? I used to do that but have not been able to do it for about 18 months as all the airlines I have spoken to will only allow luggage to be booked through if its all on the one "through" ticket!!! So then to get all destinations on the one ticket I get screwed for the domestic connecting flights!! :D

Your experience sounds poor, but also rather due to human error more than a deliberate attempt by westeast travel themselves, to try and get more money from you.

I've travelled with them 10 + times and so have many friends and never had a problem and always one of the cheapest.

thats my view, sorry yours was different.

Many bookings thru them....but I ALLWAYS ask for 'CHAI' if not available have him ring you back. He knows the game backwards (Connecting flights, upgrades, airmiles etc etc).

I have used them before without problem.

However you were dealt with poorly, their staff made a mistake, likely innocent IMO.

You paid for a service i.e. the provision of flight tickets, should have been(and possibly legally was) a "done deal".

They backed out of that deal after you paid.

Depending on how far you want to push it,assuming you paid by credit card I personally would be in touch with the CC company, could be interesting to see how you stand.

Sorry you got messed about.

P.S. Thanks to Regyai for the tip re. Chai.

After speaking with them in regard to options for my last trip, I will not bother again.

Language was the first barrier and their prices were nowhere near what they were advertising on their website.

(And yes, I am aware that taxes have to be added!)

If you're thinking of trying Ours Travel as an alternative, I've been trying for over a week to get a confirmation from them.

They've always been very reliable in the past, but I'm not the only one to note that their service has taken a turn for the worse. :D

If you lived on the mainland instead of in the bogs you wouldn't have these dramas :D Only joking mate.

Yes you would, bog hoppers, hovis munchers, porridge wogs, infact anyone who has to fly to connect at Thiefrow has just these headaches

:D

I it take that that remark was directed at me??

Cheers, you make feel better because I don't live on the mainland. Probably easily worth an additional £180 on my trips to Funderland!!!

Edited simply to say that I'm still pissed off about Eastwest Travel.

Since I posted this, I've found out that the problems were caused by them getting my email address slightly wrong.

After we established this, the confirmation, transaction and documentation were completed in less than an hour.

Methinks I judged them too harshly and will use them again. :clap2
