Got my retirement visa renewed

Recommended Posts

TGF and I went to Pattaya Immigration Monday and I was turned down becasuse my Proof of Income statement was a copy from last year and they wanted an original. I wasn't surprised but it only cost me 60 baht for transportation in the hopes of saving about 2000 baht and about a 9 hour R/T to the US Embasy.

Went to the US Embassy Tuesday and got the certificate in about 20 minutes. Again they didn't want to see any proof only wanted me to affirm that what I wrote down as my monthly income was correct. Just before we left a guy walked in and was followed by his daughter whose mother is Thai. She was sexy, naughtly and bitchy and Mr Young and his daughter sat down behind us. I told my TGF to get her autograph but she was afraid of bothering them. Headed back to the skytrain and got a ticket back to Ekamai. A TG who had rode the bus from Pattaya to Bangkok and was accompanied with a young child and a baby, got on right next to us and sat down. The baby started crying and she just pulled up her blouse and started breast feeding. I turned away, but not before I got a look at one of the biggest aerolas that I've seen in a long time and thought about crying myself in the hopes of sharing the other breast with the baby.

Wednesday went back to immigration and everything went smooth. I was a bit worried as I hadn't done the 90 day check of residencey with them and had been told by a reliable boardmember that I could be fined 5000 baht. The reason that I hadn't checked in is that I leave the country about every 60 days and that when I return I'm providing the immigration officials at the airport my address. There was no discusion about me not reporting to them.

Re, the 90 day reporting, I renewed my visa earlier in the week. The chitty in the front of my passport said I had to report again by 30th June but as I had last entered Thailand on 28th Nay, I hadn't botherd doing so. The lady at Immigration just changed the date to 25th August 90 days after I last entered the country There is therefore no need to report unless you have been in the country for 90 consecutive days. Renewing your visa doesn't count towards this though!

Alan,

Irishman had told me that when he last went to immigration for his 90 report that an individual who was renewing his retirement visa got fined 5000 baht because he hadn't done the 90 report and that he was doing the same as me flying in and out of the country same as me. That's why I was a bit worried. While waiting I picked up a small leaflet that also mentioned that if you changed address that you had to imform them within 24 hours or be subject to a fine.

Although I was given a date of 25th August, I'll probably report my address towards the end of next week.

I thought that the fine for being late reporting your address was 2,000 baht. I got fined that when I forgot some time ago so I'm not sure where the sum of 5,000 baht comes in.

I think they just make up the rules as they go along some of the time! :allright

I think they make the rules to make up the money. Having only 24 hours to report an address change is OTT and obviously being used as an earner. How about when I go stay up north for a few weeks, am I to report this address change? I believe they also try and fine you on this when you renew your driving licence and incorporate an address change. Edited by jacko

Both the fine for reporting late and change of address from the leaflet that I looked at was a maximun of 5000.

I did my 90 day reporting with no problems.

My next due date is 11th November, though I am thinking of taking a side trip to Cambodia around that time.

So even with a 1 year retirement visa you must report to immigration every 90 days ?

What do you need to bring to renew it ?

You only need to report your current address if you don't leave the country within 90 days of your last re-entry. It's only a matter of going to Immigration and reporting your current address on a form TM7.

To renew the retirement visa with 800K baht balance requirement, you need

copies of pages from bank book showing 800K baht balance or more for 3 months

recent letter from the bank stating your current bank balance

2 photos (4x6)

copy of passport pages, showing identity page, last retirement visa stamp, reentry stamp and last departure/arrival card.

1900 baht (1 photo) + 3800 baht (second photo) for multiple entry stamp

You also need a photocopy of the face page of your passport for your multple re-entry permit.

As for the 90 day reporting, bear in mind that renewing your visa does NOT count for this. I renewed my visa last week, but still had to report my address. I wasn't required to do so until 25th August, but it's always best to do so a few days early just in case you forget!

Besides what MM has written, if you go the monthly income route you need a letter from your Embassy. Also heard that going this route starting in October you have to get your letter from the Embassy verified by some Thai agency in Bangkok.

I should also point out that the medical certificate is not required. It seems I had to have one the last time I did this, but perhaps that was only for my initial visa.

Anyway, it was a joke. I went to a clinic on Soi Buakhao, and asked if they could do a certificate for immigration. They said they could, filled out my passport information on a form and handed it to me without checking anything. Cost 100b. I had to ask them to at least check my blood pressure.

The need for a medical certificate was done away with some months ago.

I needed a certificate when I renewed my visa last year. At the clinic i went to, the doctor did at least listen to my chest and charged me all of 80 baht for the priviledge.

As I have high blood pressure, I bought a wrist monitor from Boots in the UK before I moved over here. It's pretty accurate though I try to get it checked by the Pattaya International Hospital every 2 weeks or so at the Pattaya Ex-Pats Club on a Sunday morning. Last time it was something like 115/73 with a pulse rate of 40. My doctor back in Scotland would be delighted with that as it was 200/150 when I was first diagnosed.

I renewed my 3rd retirement visa on the 4th July 2007 and at the same time converted it to multi entry.

The 90-day reporting date was set as the 19th August.

On the 8th August i made my first trip out of Thailand in four years and was unsure how the multi entry worked on my retirement visa.

I've had a multi entry standard "O" visa for years where the immigration police stamp the date for you but on my arrival at Suvarnabumi on the 20th August the immigration officer gave me a stamp which was dated as the expiry date of my retirement visa which is the 4th July 2008.

Somewhat confused about this i called into the Pattaya immigration office where it was explained that it is my responsibilty to make a note of the 90-day reporting whenever leaving and re-entering Thailand.

The lady in the immigration did it for me but in future i know the responsibility is mine.

Your re-entry day is counted as day one.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget to report or you will be fined 2,000 baht AND get your passport stamped. I know this from experience.

I always try to go a few days early just to be on the safe side.
