HI All,

Ill be in LOS for 3 weeks next month, mostly up north.

Any idea how much a GPRS modem card, would cost in pattaya, and is there anyplace that would supply and get it working.

Its for use in a very old win98 machine, which i want to leave for TGs daughter.

TIA

tukcom 5th floor, turn left out of lift, then right, in front of you is a desk, ask there, they range from a card to be used with the mobile phone (i dont like this 1 as if someone calls you loose the connection) or get a remote gprs plug in, where you put the antenna into your machine. range from 5k to 11k

while there get the win98 upgraded, wont cost much.

Rather than buying a relatively expensive data card, why not get a mobile that has Internet connectivity via GPRS? A simple USB cable connection and you have the benefit of GPRS Internet access as well as a mobile phone.

The AIS GPRS service starts with a 100 hour package for a month at 350 baht + 7% VAT a month.

I'm running an old IBM Thinkpad 600X connected to a Sony Ericsson k510i and whilst speed isn't great it's acceptable for simple browsing, e-mail & text services.

  • 3 years later...

Bumping this thread so Ill find it next time.

Recently used a "AIS Micro netsim" from "12Call" (the phone company), 350B for 60 hours Edge connection averaging 460k connection speeds in patts and on farm.

Used my unlocked nokia 3120c 3G phone (£30 off ebay) attached to notebook via a usb cable, Nokia internet suite handled all the settings for LOS automatically, and having 2 phones meant I didnt have to keep swapping sim cards.

You can do all that and buy prepaid GPRS/Edge on say 1-2-Call... no need for 2 phones/SIMS as you just use the regular SIM.

I just checked 30 hours 99 baht, 60 hrs 199 baht, 100 hrs 350. Going via their phone prompting is onerous though.

Easy to set up both with my Samsung and Sony/Eric suites.

I don't think I fully understand this discussion.

I have an old "dongle" (no need to feel sorry for me :allright ). Can I buy a SIM card which I can put into it which will enable me to get on to the internet when I am in LOS (assuming I plug the dongle into the computer).

Not sure about that... the dongles often have other stuff in there that loads software and memory etc etc and might well not work with a different networks SIM.

Get one here.... or you can just plug your mobile into the laptop and get onto the internet that way. Prepaid air4time is the cheapest way otherwise it costs 1 baht/minute.
