Last minute visa run

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I live here and have a multi entry non Imm B visa. I have done visa runs to Cambodia with 1st Class before.

I just got a reminder from my accountant that I have to go again before my entry stamp expires but, having just returned from Samui, have not had time to book with 1st Class.

I have a car and think I might do it myself tomorrow but I am not sure if I need any other paperwork.

Anybody done the run on their own? Any advice?

I don't want to get a 7 day extension as I would then have to renew my work permit for 7 days only as well and that is a pain in the ass.

Cheers

LF

Don't you just need to leave the country, enter Cambodia (closest) and then return with a new arrival card and stamp? There isn't any other paperwork that I know of.

LF,

I do my runs to Sadao on the Malaysian border as its only an hour or so from where I live. No extra paperwork needed but I would imagine for Cambodia you have to cough up your 20 USD for a visa on arrival.

I have done it myself at Ranong. 3 hours from phuket. thats the visa run for Phuket. I went to immigration, They stamp my passport out of Thailand, I had to fill a form in the same one you get when you come by air into Thaiand. In fact you should still have one stapeled to your passport, use that one , Go get your passport stamped where ever you go, Cambodia, Burma.then go back to Immigration in Thailand and get your new visa form stamped to your passport. Dont know what they charge in Cambodia , I know its 10 American dollers in Burma, because its cheaper that Thai bahrt..Word of warning cheak your visa stamp , make shore you get a 90 day one , and not a 30 day one. If you have a multi entry visa , it will be numberd, make shore you put the number on your exit visa form so you get a 90 day on return..

Surprised you couldn't get on one of the organised visa runs this time of year.... I would always prefer an 'organised trip'. I don't see a problem though other than the Cambodians maybe taking advantage.. and wanting 1000 baht instead of $20. But sure, you can get in and out on the day.

If money is no real object I would think about driving to the airport and jumping on a budget flight to Singapore...

Mr LordFlash,

I normally always drive myself, it's a piece of piss...It takes between 2/3 hours to get there, 20 mins or so at the border. It'll cost you, 300-400 baht fine at the Cambodian border if you don't stay there a night and an extra 1000 for your visa at the Cambo border.

It's 270 km's each way, so you can work out your fuel cost.

Directions:-

Follow the sukhumvit (Sattahip way) or go on the main drag behind Mabprachan (following for Trat) till you cannot go any futher, turn left at the end (right for Trat), follow this road for approx 70kms, till you hit a set of traffic lights (the only ones), turn right at the lights...Follow this road for approx 30-40 km's, till you come to a small police building on your right (the only one), take you next right about 1 km past the cop shop...Follow this road for about 2km's and you're at Prum Border.

No tout's or fuck all at this border.

Good luck!

Oh, don't forget a couple of passport photo's, you only need one but better to be safe!

Cheers guys.

Drove to Bang Laem and it was about 4 hours each way.

200 baht for a guy to fill in my forms and escort me around. 1000 baht for the Cambo visa. Another 100 baht for a stamp (not sure why?) and 100 baht tip for the guy who helped me. Total - 1400 baht plus fuel at about 600 baht so say 2k total. This makes the visa run agencys really good value at 2-2.5k but it was nice not to have to get up at 6am. I left at 10am and was back just before 6pm.

Cheers

Perhaps the visa run agencies pay the 'official' Cambodia visa price of $20, or 680 baht. Your extra 100 baht is probably the newer extra charge, for not staying in Cambodia!

Nevertheless, with a breakfast, dinner and sitting in comfort watching a DVD, I will be using the visa run agencies. They were offering afternoon runs a while back, probably not viable in low season, plus they got back too late.
