A small visa question?

Recommended Posts

If I arrive with a two (or three) months visa and go over to Singapore for two nights in the first month, am I then right that the rest of the visa, i.e the remaining months, are invalid and I get just a one month Tourist Visa when I land back

That is correct, except that what you get the second time is not even technically a visa, but a 30-day permission to stay.

One arrival, one departure uses up one visa. Next arrival, you start over.

The wise thing is to get a multiple entry.

First of all, thanks. The consul up here is not very keen on multiple entry visa.

But I should not have any problems re-entering?

If the tourist visa would still be valid when you return, you can enter the first time on a 30 day stamp and use the visa for the second entry. You would have to tell the immigration when you arrive though or they will use your visa.

I have heard this idea mentioned before, and have no idea whether, if you do have a valid visa in your passport, you are required to utilise it. I have not heard of anyone successfully employing this method either, but I only read this board.

I would be concerned about arousing the immigration official's curiousity or annoyance by trying to tell him/her (better a her) what to do. It might remind him/her to ask to see your outward flight ticket for within 30 days, or worse.

If you have a visa stamped in your passport then that is used on your first entry. You can then come back for another 30 days after the time you leave on the first visa. You cannot do the other way round, cannot ask for 30 day free visa and then use the stamped visa the next time. Multi entry is the way to go, most consulates will also give you two entries , at double cost of course.
