Just go to Big C. I can't vouch for them having sourdough bread, but they have pretty much everything else you'd expect in a major supermarket.

Thanks. However, I've tried 2 "Big C"s, Carre4, TescoL/P.Neua, FoodLand - & some small/local shops - no joy on either peanut oil or sourdo (Carre4 has some palid imitation sourdo, but ...) - as well as many places in BKK (I did find peanut oil in Chinatown.)

This sort of "unpopular" (non-Thai) stuff, always try Villa Supermarket first, preferably the main one between Sois 33 and 25 on Sukhumvit in Bangkok.

I don't remember ever seeing sourdough bread for regular sale (a few specials) but I've seen dough for do-it-yourself in Villa. As you've found, peanut oil isn't popular either, although bottles pop up here and there. Soy, palm and (lately) corn are what you'll find in 99 per cent of stores.

"Middle-class" supermarkets like Big C won't stock much that doesn't move REAL fast with Thai housewives. Villa does.

I am not certain but "I think though I could be wrong"that the Friendship supermarket on south pattaya rd (just opposite soi Buakhow)had some on the shelf last year when I was in town,I'm sure I saw some while I was browsing the shelves.

PS have you tried the International Bakery just off soi Chiapoon which is just off soi Buakhow they also I believe have a place somewhere in Jomtiem.just remembered the soi is called soi bowling green as the bowling green is on this soi.

  • 2 months later...

I found peanut oil @ Villa Market, (Avenue?) shopping center, 2nd Road, S. 12 (expensive!)

Carre4/P. Klang has a "country sour" bread which is good but not very sour.
