I went to Thai consulate in Sydney to get a visa as I will be in the country more than 30 days.

That will be $45.00 says the guy.

I give him $50.00, no have change he says

Dont worry keep the 50.

Oh, cannot, I will be accused of corruption, everybody know, there is no corruption in Thailand.

same same, i went to the Thai embassy in Holland, came after closing time, they let me apply anyways as i explained i had taken a 1 hour train ride to get there... then they also went out of their way to have it ready for me the next day... i decide to tip them as a gesture of appreciation, they could not accept!!!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is quite proud of being known as the cleanest of anything in the government.

 

Like anything anywhere, they have their bad actors from time to time (including a drunk ex-ambassador who literally sold the entire embassy in The Hague!!) but they don't take little under the table "tips", at home or abroad.

 

The first guy in this thread, I'd bet quite a bit he was making an ironic joke that he hoped the OP would understand.
