Fun Golf With Fun Golfers In Pattaya - Tuesdays 8am Breakfast,

Recommended Posts

This week's winners. It has been a long time since I won in my group, but finally did this week. It cost me a beer for pressing on the back 9 against 2 worthy opponents. We usually have a small group or about a dozen people and a winner in each group. We have a lot of fun and constantly have new people joining us and they always swear to return next time they are in town along with the expat regulars who live here. Read the first posting for information on how the rules (or lack thereof) go. If you enjoy practicing on the golf course and not at the driving range this is the place to do it. If any of you need a set of clubs I have a extra set to loan at B200. Remember we now meet at Rabbi's Elephant Bar at 8am or at the course at 9:30 for a 10:00 am tee of, no reservations required.

Last week's winners. I was in one of the groups and Ed (the winner) scored 2 birdies with chip-ins from 10 yards off the green and another from 50 yards off the green. Quite remarkable shots. It was another nice day but the course is still in pretty rough shape.

July's monthly winner was Mitch, beating 2nd place finisher with 74 points vs 71.25 points. Congrats Mitch.

This week's winners. It was a tight race for each group, so tight that 2 Bob's (Oregon Bob & Hawaii Bob) tied in Group C.

Well what an interesting three weeks the “B” Group have had with the Bingo Bango Bongo [also known as Bingle Bangle Bungle] golf competition played at Plataluang on Tuesday’s. in case you do not understand the point scoring of this golf game please let me explain, 1 point is awarded for each of the three types of achievements the first player in a group to get his ball on the green [ bingo], the player in the group whose ball is closest to the pin once all balls on the green [bango] and the player to first put out [bongo].

A “gimme” does not count in scoring and if nobody puts out on the hole the point is carried over to the next.

Although “anything goes”, within reason, on the fairway [including teeing up, and repositioning of the ball] it is a very good way of improving your short game tactic and abilities.

If you want to join our merry band, we meet on Tuesdays at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar in Soi Buakhau for breakfast at 8am and depart at 8:30am. There is generally space in a car if you need transport. Give Hawaii Bob a call on 087 829 6824 for further information.

“B” Group Results and observations.

On the 22nd of July we had Rabbi, Ken, Oregon Bob and a one-off visit from Rick [uSA] where Oregon Bob took the day with 18 points from Rabbi 15, Rick 11 and Ken 10

On the 29th Rabbi, Tim, Oregon Bob and Ed battled it out to end up with Ed coming in first with 18 from Oregon Bob 14, Tim 12 and Rabbi 10

Yesterday, the 5th of August the battle continued with Rabbi, Ken, Tony and Tim. Tony succeeding after a close finish with 19, Rabbi 15, Ken14 and Tim offering to buy beer at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar for a week if his result was not revealed!

The Lord of golf was able to witness from above many instances of some new and exhibition shots including

• The “worm burning - watch out behind and to the side of me” fairway & tee shots beautifully executed by Tim and Tony

• The “Oh Darn I’ve broken my rented Lek Jet [7 Iron]” on the back 6 East hole.

King Neptune had a very profitable period with his ball collection and reclaiming and I am certain that most of the balls that I purchased yesterday were exactly the same ones that I and or my buddies purchased previously from the ball lady.

The welcome news was given to us yesterday that unfortunately the North course is going to be unplayable for a few months while they redo the reticulation, which of course means that we will not be able to show off our abilities on the number 2, par 3, 145 yard, over the water onto the lighthouse island green.

That’s all for now until next Tuesday!

Come and join us to experience the thrills and excitement of B-B-B.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Notice, no golf this week as it is another Thai holiday, but the bars will still be open. We don't want to pay holiday rates, nor be stuck behind the Thai 6 ball groups. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Report from last week on group C. We started with 4 of us behind group B with 3 players, but on the first T Aussie Tim hit his drive over the heads of group B, we made him move up to that group, he would have made the rest of us look bad as none of us hit further than 150 yards from the T on that hole hand he went about 250.

We started on the West 9 and finished on the South 9. The North 9 is closed for a few months, both installing sprinklers like they did on the other 27 and doing a lot of landscaping. That means without the island green most of us loose 1-3 fewer balls each week. :hello09:

We had a tight grouping all the way to the last hole, Oregon Bob was leading by a point or 2 most of the game, but Hawaii Bob snuck up on him and sealed the win on the last hole by making a 8' putt that had a carry-over point on it.

See you all in 10 days, come join us.

This week's winners, only 2 of 3 could stay for picture but we had our regular group of a dozen players. Next week is the last week of our monthly contest for August and since we passed on one holiday Tuesday only 3 weeks for qualifying. Come join us tomorrow or any Tuesday that you want a relaxing day of fun golf.

I did manage to break 100 for the second time this year with a 98, but still not eligible for PSC handicaping as it included 2 mulligans and 1/2 dozen gimmies beyond the grip when someone made the "bongo" point.

Another interesting round of golf for the “B” Group in the Bingo Bango Bongo [golf competition played at Plataluang on Tuesday’s.

Yesterday, the 26th of August the battle continued at Plataluang after a week off due to “holidays” with the following results

West South Total

Rabbi 7 7 14

Jon, 6 6 12

Tony 4 3 7

Rick. 10 11 21

Rick declared at the outset that this would be his last game in Thailand as it was leaving to go back to the States but will be back around December. Hopefully we will have improved and will be able to give the Yank a run for his money.

Your trusty correspondent was happy to come in second and even more pleased to get a simulated Stableford score of 33.

There was a bit of a mixup at the beginning and our trusty B team teed off first rather than second because somebody from the 18 had apparently hammed it up with his Putter at home and forgot to put it back in his golf bag. Luckily someone had a spare putter that was retrieved from the car park.

There was a bit of a mystery at the second tee when Rick disappeared. His caddie was also perplexed but he eventually reappeared and had apparently been down to the lake. If I was going to disappear I would have taken the caddie with me! I cannot understand these USA citizens

Also on the second Tony gave an excellent demonstration of how to tee off on the fairway straight into the nahm. May be a just reward.

John seem to have perfected his abilities to also tee off on the fairway [ allowable in BBB] So on the seventh he showed us how to send his ball about 1 yard out in front of the tea and then do a 90° turn to the left and go uphill 80 yards into the jungle and to prove it was not a fluke on the 17th he showed us again how to execute a 90° turn from the tee.

The 18th green was proof that not only is ping pong returning to its home at the 2012 London Olympics but the ping-pong is well and alive in Pattaya. Is this last hole was a carryover and we managed with the help of John, after Rick “gimmeed” to witness him take the two points with only seven putts

Also Rabbi's Elephant Bar is almost on the corner of Soi 21 & Soi Buakhau the actual address in 210/47-48 Soi Buakhau

This weeks winners and report from A group.

Hawaii Tim is back with us after 6 weeks in Hawaii and won first place in his group, I move up to group A from C and finished dead last. The day started out bad with lightening and thunder on the way to the course and it was raining when we got there. We moved to the club house for breakfast and decision on how to proceed. At 10 o'clock the fairways looked like a overhead shot of Minnesota (land of lakes) and the sand trap in front of the clubhouse was so full of water you could hardly see sand.

Not very promising but at 9:45 we made a executive decision to wait until 10:30 to decide to pay our green fees (no rain checks allowed). At 10:10 rained slowed, fairways started to drain and you could see sand in the traps so @ 10:25 we paid our fees and headed to the first tee.

The first 3 holes things were quite soggy, including my golf shoes but we had a lot of free drops because of standing water. By the fourth hole the sogginess abated except for my golf shoes. By the end of the 4th holes my sole fell off and I played the rest of the 18 holes with 1 shoe and sock and 1 bare foot. What a mistake that was. I always wear socks even with sandals and never need to wear suntan lotion when playing golf. Well my foot had never seen sunlight and I ended up with 3rd degree burns on one foot from the ankle down to my toes. Ouch 4 days of drenching it in Hydrocortosine cream with Aloe I can finally put my shoes and socks on without grimacing.

Oregon Bob won in our A group hands down, in fact with 3 holes to go he had tied the record for the best point score for `18 holes already amassing 21 points, at that point he felt the pressure and the rest of us would not let up and managed to hold him to only 1 point the last 3 holes. All in all a memorable performance by one of our regular players with the nickname OB.

I hope to see some new faces tomorrow and am happy to announce we have lined up a couple of sponsors (Mini of Mini's Aviary and Rabbi of Rabbi's Elephant bar)who will be paying for shirts for the monthly winners and sponsoring tournaments with no entry fee and cash prizes for the winners. Watch this sight for details.

This month's high point scorer's Hawaii Bob4you won by just a point and this week we announced a free tournament will be played on Thursday the 18th with cash prizes to the 3 top winners and prizes for hole in one, Albatross, Eagle, Mulligan, birdie and not entry fee to join us. High scores will be based on BBB points so no handicap needed, in fact no real stroke count needed except for hole in one, Albatross, Eagle, Mulligan, birdie. We will have one of our regulars in each group to verify scores.

Also pictured are the sponsor's Mini and Rabbi. Rabbi___Mini.jpg

This weeks winners and one honorable mention. OB and Tony are regular players and regular winners but the 3rd person in the picture has played with us every week since we started and no matter if we put him in group A, B or C he comes in dead last, but this week was and exception, John S came in 2nd 1 shot behind Tony and the winner was not decided until the last hole as John was 3 points behind going into 18 and already had set a personal record having recorded 3 points on 1 hole in the front 9, then topping that record with another hat trick on the back 9. You could see visions of turning pro running around in his head if he could score 3 on the last hole he would tie for the win. But alas it was not to be as he only scored 2 of the 3 points. Well done John!

Results of the Free Tournament. We introduced the art of Bingo, Bango, Bongo to some new players one of whom placed in the final four. Mini and he tied for 3rd place and the both insisted I get a picture of both of them together as there is such a contrast in their sizes.

The other picture is of the winners and the sponsors of the tournament. Keep a eye on this site as we plan on doing this "free tournament" monthly. Thanks to all who participated and to Rabbi who provided a free spread of food after the event at Rabbi's Bar.

Report from Group A and pictures from yesterday. After 9 holes only one point separated 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and we fought hard but by the time we finished 17 holes there was no contest left. One of our regular golfers who has never won a grouping was 4 points ahead and none of us had a chance to even tie him, so congratulations to John W for his nice clean win. He even knocked the legs out from under our record holder OB (Oregon Bob) and limiting him to only 12 points after record setting performances the last 2 weeks.

Group C saw one of our frequent winners (Tony) post another 1 point win over his good buddy John S who is still trying hard to post his first win, although we published his picture last week as a honorable mention for his second place win last week, but no more honorable mentions, he just us going to have to try a little harder and post a win to get his picture in the news.

Rabbi took a group of visitors from US and Aussie land with him to make up group B and teach them all about Bingo, Bango, Bongo and they learned well. Jeff won out as a first time player and left the other 3 tied for 2nd or last place in there group 2 points behind the leader.

See you all next Tuesday.
