Why cost more flying from BBK.HELP WANTED

Well in Aug or Sep will have to go back to the UK ,for new o img visa and visit

my children back in the UK.

 

so just started to see if any bargins out there at moment,

 

I use this web site,I have used this web site for last two years to find flights

as it looks at all airlines and find cheapest flights for you,

 

But WHY is it different price to fly from Bangkok to UK ,than UK to Bangkok

Same airline,same airports,same dates,but not same price

 

To fly from Bangkok to UK cheapest found was £720

 

To fly from UK to Bangkok cheapest found about £530

 

Have any xpats found what I am saying is true

 

As I have never had to fly this return route before am I missing a trick

 

Is it cheaper findind a flight using a Thai travel agent here in Thailand for a return flight

back to the UK

Flights ex BKK are priced in Baht ........ nothing weird about it. The prices have remained pretty stable over the last year or so (discounting fuel surcharges). It's only the exchange rate that has moved.

 

Look on the bright side ...... that UK hotel that charges 100 quid a night would have knocked you back 7k baht a year ago, now it will only cost you 5k baht ................

At todays rate that is about £663.

 

This time last year, that would have been around £520. If you have had your baht for a year, it is costing you the lower amount.

Or £921 at 36 baht to the pound the last time I purchased tickets in reverse in 1995 !!

 

Tickets were no different in price from today (slightly more if anything)

That would explain it. Also when I have looked at booking from BKK round trip to the USA, the fees and taxes in Thailand are over 5000 baht more then when booking the reverse.

Why is that? Knowing that the flights originating ex UK work out cheaper is important to me, hence the thread and question seem useful. I live in LOS so I can change my origin! Sadly, I just got a one way mileage ticket UK-LOS...so I messed up! Edited January 18, 2009 by jacko

The Thai tax is 700 Baht. Hardly worth worrying about.

Well Mick,if it is all about the price have a look at air asia to K/L and air asia x into uk,dont know what the price is but should be reasonable,or even look at air asia or tiger into singapore and pick up a flight from there to uk,it is worth looking at.

Its the new Thai tourist tactic- dont let people out of the country so they spend more in Thailand.

I got a price on EVA for about £850 from the travel agent so, I asked for a non direct flight. Waiting to hear back.

 

I just got a price for KUL-STN-KUL on Air Asia of £501- that's more like it. The web is not responding for a BKK-KUL-BKK quote.

 

That is for 30MAR KUL-STN. 30 JUN STN-KUL.

 

I am flexible on dates, but am trying to avoid Easter and high summer for the return leg.

 

01 May ex BKK and 30 Jul ex STN are the latest dates. Any 3 months between 01 Apr- 30 JUL will do, as long as it is a 3 month ticket. JUL is a bit late, but who knows, by then, no bugger may be flying.

I am flying KUL-STN on Sat, the 28th March. Decent timings ..... out of KUL at 10:00 and into STN for !6:00.

 

AirAsia X is a low-cost carrier so all the normal 3 month ticket rules etc go out of the window. Managing to book both outward and return when there is a promotion on is the only trick that you need to perfect.

 

You need to make separate bookings BKK-KUL and KUL-STN.

Bloody Air Asia, had to pay all of £4 for excess baggage weight, 1KG over the 15KG limit, money grabbing cheap sods... I had an empty back-pack, and there were people carrying on kitchen sinks!
