I am returning to pattaya for my 6th visit in april, i know this is possibly the hottest time of the year to visit, i have read several articles about the humidity but is this caused by cloud cover or is it glourious sunshine all the way?

Sun and some pretty strong rain storms. It IS the hottest month of the year in Thailand.

Yes. In general, there are not a lot of storms - although this year there were. The climate itself is very hot and humid. Most of the rain is usually at sea (offshore winds) but that will vary from year to year. On average, some very light rain showers (mango rains) once a week. In reality, you COULD have an hour of rain every second day, torrential once in a while.

You will NOT be cold outside in April, even in the most vicious rainstorm.

It is baking hot, but not too hot for you to get around, and I found the humidity was OK. I went last year and was expecting the worst in weather, but it was OK, sunny days and small amount of rain and clouds, just a bit hotter than usual. But be aware that the Sonkran festival happens sometime in the month, so you will get a soaked anyway whatever the weather if you are there that that week
