I like to read the newspapers (I buy at least one per day, usually two) and at the end of my stay I've got a huge pile of them , ditto plastic and glass bottles. I usually leave the bottles by the side of the bin as I reckon there is a market for them and the cleaner in my hotel might as well have them, but what happens to the papers?

Is there a recyling bin anywhere in town? Seems a huge waste just to chuck them out.

Not in town. The recycling bin is at the dump, where families make their living recycling.

Most Thais sell their stacks of newspapers for about 1 baht a kilo to a guy who comes around in a three-wheeled cart. The "selang" man resells the paper - usually directly to a processor. By leaving them stacked in your hotel room, you'd effectively be giving a small tip to the maid.

I was impressed, every garbage truck has recycling options.

Here in the States my garbage is picked up my one man with big truck. A couple of hours later the recycling bin is picked up by one man with big truck. In Pattaya, same size truck has six men plus driver and recycle items are picked out of trash enroute. Those bags up topside have the glass bottles, plastic stuff, newspaper all sorted before the load gets to the dump.

I rent a house and my neighbors wife collects all the paper and glass and cans then once a month a guy on a motorbike comes with a scale to buy it. She usually gets about 200baht each time he comes... What he does with it I don't know..

He takes it to the recycling places and gets more for it of course. There are many down Soi Khao Noi area and toward Khao Talo.

You are either getting a good deal or collect a good pile of prime rubbish.... I rarely got over 100 baht for mine when it started getting in the way.

More recently I save it for one collector who seems to have a bad lot in life and give it away, and deter those annoying guys who go through my bin tearing up the bags in there.
